New developments coming this summer

I've been wearing the pants to work a good bit and got them out this weekend for about 3 days (evening, full day, morning) and 10 miles (mostly on trail) with the off-trail stuff being mostly alpine and a little blowdown. Didn't really beat them up much.

I will say my (3) pairs of FL Corrugate pants and (2) pairs of Kuiu Tiburons have pilling from a lot of use, but it's not a durability concern as far as I can tell. One tear in a pair of Tiburons from snagging blowdown that tenacious tape has held together fine. The stretch in the Corrugates has allowed them to absorb the same contact and resist tearing. So if they start pilling I won't be terribly concerned and with similar/more stretch compared to the Corrugates I imagine they'll absorb potential snags similarly.

They are definitely a "hot weather" pant for me. It was overcast, slightly breezy and in the 60's and I had to put the puffy pants on while static. Hiked in them while it was in the 50'-60's and they were great for activity in those temps. Kinda doubt they'll make the trip to MT in November though.

Very happy with the design. Circumference around the boot/calves is the best of any pant I own with plenty of room in the thighs/rear still. Stretch was perfect for making some big step ups on big rocks. I'm going to keep using this pair, but early indication is I'll buy a pair in each color.

I think the pants fit great and I’ll take the trade off in some of the durability for the fit. I also think they can work really well with a base layer bottom, which will extend their use. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Kuiu Kutana’s, the fabric is durable and light. However, the Kutana’s don’t have the range of motion and fit these OV Altura’s do. I’ll take that trade off for most reasons. The Kutana’s are very size-specific - and take a lot of trying on to find the right size, on a longer hunt, you have to have a belt because of the weight loss. That’s where the built-in belt on these Altura’s shine. The pockets are perfect. They dry fast. And, I can wear them around town - and honestly want to because of the fit and weight.

I think you just can’t expect these pants to cover every use case possible—I know there’s limitations and have other options based on the trip. If I was crawling a lot, busting a lot of brush, etc, I would probably just keep that in mind. They didn’t put knee pad pockets in them for a reason—there’s better options out there. They didn’t’ put a heavier woven fabric for a reason—they wanted them light and versatile for layering.

I agree with what you said, if they hadn’t been promoted as being durable and able to take a beating. This is my opinion and how I interpreted the hype, though. So others have different thoughts.
