Now that Hornady has announced the 25 Creedmoor, has anyone thought that it could be used in place of the 6 Creed? Or is it an option in place of a 22 Creed? I can see benefits to all of them, thought it might make for a decent topic.

If the result is the same, death, the question becomes what tradeoffs you make.

Perusing the .223 for bear, moose thread, one sees that the difference between the humble 77 TMK and larger bullets is not significant.

Velocity and BC determination are external ballistics. Bullet weight doesn’t matter.

Bullet construction determines minimum velocity for reliable killing. Bullet weight makes no significant difference.

For barrel length, a smaller caliber means shorter barrel.

You can always run a shorter barrel with smaller caliber— with bullets of similar BC you can figure about 2”ish inches shorter to keep the same effective killing range.

Smaller calibers are easier to shoot, making that part easier and more effective.

What the .25 does is replace the 6.5 Creedmoor, because a 133-134 is close to the 140 but with a much higher BC. The 25 is a very efficient caliber for the case size and powder charge.

I was thinking along the same lines, using the 25 with even the 138 A-tip, is really close to the 6.5, which I have a 16" 1-7 that does shoot really well, but always wanting to build another. Having some really good bullet choices in the 25cal will make things interesting as well.

I like the 25 cal, and have run a 25 SST as my long range bomber.

I have just been going smaller, after seeing that the Berger bullets I used from 180 to 133 were about the same. Makes it easy to jump down and make shootability a priority.

To me the 25 is more of an optimized alternative to 6.5 than an alternative to 6. I still like the lighter recoil and higher velocity of a 6 in short barrels and light rifles but the BC of a 25 would be nice if a guy has enough barrel length to get the 128-138 gr pills moving faster.

Splitting hairs really but we all love a pointless caliber debate.
For many, and most of regular Rokslide, yes, it is pointless.

You’d be surprised at how many people come to a thread like this and read it with never participating. And, with enough they exposure come to understand the details.

Boring for Rokslider regulars, but man, Google feeds up Rokslide frequently because of the discussions.

So in terms of rifle "quiver", if a guy already has a 6 creed and a 6.5 PRC, is there still a use case for adding a 25 creed? I guess I'm leaning towards not.

I would say no.

I might also say that a 6 creed and 6.5 PRC are duplicative...

Maybe they are! Depends on if you see a terminal difference between a 108 eldm and a 147 eldm, because the effective ranges are both long enough for me personally. Let's say you're shooting it at a moose. Let's also say you already bought the 6.5 PRC because you thought it was a screaming deal...

The 6.5PRC has 16 ish pounds of recoil versus 11 for the 6 creed, so that's a difference of almost 50%. The 6.5prc probably gives an extra 100 yards of range (but from like 650 to 750, which I'm quite unlikely to use) and 1mph better in the wind.

The bc on the 25 cal 134 is advertised at .645. How heavy do you have to get in the 6.5 to get there? And with the lost velocity, the 25 really shines. I love my 25cm. I like the speed of the 22 and 6cm but not enough to move away from the 25cm.

Where are folks getting numbers that equate the 6 Creedmoor with the 6.5 PRC?

My 6.5 PRC
COTS: 147 gr ELD-M (2910 fps), 1800 fps @ 975 yards (using box numbers)
Handload: 147 gr ELD-M (3050 fps), 1800 fps @ 1100 yards

6 Creedmoor
COTS: 108 gr ELD-M (2960 fps), 1800 fps @ 775 yards (using box numbers)

None! Which is why I already have too many rifles, lol. Instead of a new caliber I'll probably opt for a couple cases of ammo for the ones I already have.

But if I had neither, the 25 creed would certainly be attractive.
That was my excuse for having some extras. :p

Realistically shoot through your 6cm barrel, then decide if you want another 6cm barrel or want to try a 25cm the next go.

They aren't the same, but are there shots/animals you'd take inside 600 yards with the 6.5PRC but not the 6 creed? (I decided there were a few for me. But I think for a lot of people there wouldn't be).

I have a 300 prc, and was thinking the 6cm would be my next build after a Rokslide special 223 Tikka that I have going right now. After seeing the 25, kinda piqued my curiosity about it... Nothing wrong with no kids and multiple rifles for sure!
