It's hard to have a snappy comeback against the truth.

Wyo.....are you saying what Hunter did didn't happen? I suppose his laptop is fake as well, and Joe really was a truck driver.
I’m saying it is irrelevant to the topic of this thread.

The very definition of the word you used, ironically (though not surprisingly), doesnt agree with your "interpretation."

Here's the definition of ignorant, seeing as how you have a limited understanding of your supposed vast vocabulary.

Ignorant-lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated.

Right. A person can be all of that and still be intelligent. There are plenty of very smart people who don’t have much in the way of a formal education. Ignorance does not necessarily equate to a slow mind. There are also plenty of highly educated people that lack common sense.

Funny you should bring that up. Here are the votes on H.R. 3982 Omnibus budget reconciliation Act of 1981.

Passed the (barely) Democrat controlled House
Yea = 232
Nay = 192
D- Yea = 47
R-Yea = 185
D- Nay = 186
R- Nay = 6
80% of the Dems voted against
3% of the Reps voted against

Passed the Republican majority Senate
Nay = 14
Yea = 80

Signed by Reagan August 13, 1981

You can learn more about the implications if you are so inclined.

You might want to pop some Tylenol before reading it. There are several pages, no pictures and no catchy phrases that include “triggered” or “snowflake”. 😉

Maybe do a little reading before making thoughtless and insulting statements. We don’t all just eat your garbage without giving it a sniff.

The congressional democrats could have stopped it, but didn't. 47 House democrats deserve the same criticism as President Reagan for this. I'm not sure what information in your link you think appears to contradict my point that it was a bad idea and has caused a lot of problems.

I absolutely stand by statements. The very fact you can't focus on anything but blaming one side proves what I posted to be true.

You called me ignorant. If you're going to do that, be a man about it and stand by it. Fact is, you don't know me. You know nothing about me. You have insulted a number of folks in this thread, and there's no reason for it. Be better dude. No need to make people dislike you.

100% agree. The 20% of house Dems that voted for it get the same exact credit as the 97% of republicans. And we agree that it was a horrible idea that has negative impact to this day. The only real mistake in your statement was that the democrats controlled the senate. The didn’t. Pretty small overlook. On this we agree more than we disagree. The information in that link contradicts nothing in your statement about it being a terrible idea to toss out the bill signed by Carter. It’s just information on who and why it was tossed along with implications.

I think you are calling yourself ignorant. I never actually said that. I know the rules. The fact that you can’t just move on is perplexing.

I hate that I am having to walk you through what you said, and helping you define the words you used. Go back up and re-read your comments. You said that you were insinuating that I lack vocabulary, which doesn't mean I'm not intelligent, it means I'm ignorant. Which again, that word--ignorant--does, in fact, mean that you are calling me unintelligent. Don't come back with this "oh I never said that" garbage. It's saved for you, just scroll up and reread it and quit insulting people.

This is precisely what I typed,

“I hinted that you might have a limited vocabulary. A person with the inability to express himself well doesn’t make him unintelligent. It makes him ignorant.”

It was a hypothetical person. Additionally… ignorant and unintelligent are not synonymous.

unintelligent /ʌnɪnˈtɛlɪdʒ(ə)nt /
▸ adjective having or showing a low level of intelligence:
a good-natured but unintelligent boy.
– DERIVATIVES
unintelligence noun
unintelligently /ˌʌnɪnˈtɛlɪdʒ(ə)ntli

ignorant /ˈɪɡn(ə)r(ə)nt /
▸ adjective
1 lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated:
he was told constantly that he was ignorant and stupid.
▪[predicative] lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about a particular thing:
I was largely ignorant of the effects of radiotherapy
school-leavers were ignorant about the range of job opportunities.
2 informal discourteous or rude:
this ignorant, pin-brained receptionist.
3 West Indian angry or quick-tempered:
she could be very ignorant and he had no intention of getting involved in an argument just now
I had to walk out before I got ignorant.
– DERIVATIVES
ignorantly /ˈɪɡn(ə)r(ə)ntli / adverb
– ORIGIN late Middle English: via Old French from Latin ignorant- ‘not knowing’, from the verb ignorare ( see ignore).

Note: the author used the sentence “ignorant and stupid”. This means that they are two separate things. The OED does not use redundancy in definition.

This has gone beyond pointless. If you need to get one more rant out of your system go ahead and do that. Then have a nap. Maybe you’ll feel better.

Since we are reprimanding people for insulting people they do not know, what exactly does "Pedo" mean in the context in which you used it previously?

Anyone standing up for 2A = white supremacist......according to Dems. Add that to your list.
I support all of the amendments. A quick look in my gun safe would convince any reasonable person that the second amendment is included in “all”. I also support keeping our children safe. At what point does any amendment trump the preamble? “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.". There has to be something we can do. I’m not sure a federal red flag law will make enough of a difference to be worth it. If you’ll think back a day or two. That’s what this thread was about. Just because I don’t figuratively scream insults at anyone who sees it a little differently does not mean I don’t support the constitution.

“Those that give up freedom for safety deserve neither.”
~Benjamin Franklin~

The following quote is attributed to a Scottish man by the name of Alexander Fraser Tyler who said:

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.”

^The importance of this quote is the undeniable historical accuracy of its content.

“For the good of all” and “for the good of the nation” is a well worn-out statement that pays off for those who aspire to government positions to prey on people’s ignorance. Why does a generation choose security over liberty? The answer is a no-brainer: they make this choice not knowing the horrible consequences that await them thinking the pseudo-intellectuals and dishonest politicians know better than anyone else how to lead society to greater stability and progress.

Only problem with old Ben’s statement is you can’t really consider yourself free if you are dead. I’d go to prison to protect my kids if that’s what it took. That is sacrificing freedom for safety.

I’m not saying I disagree with the basic tenet. I agree with it. But it’s pretty simplistic and sometimes we need to look beyond statements made by old dead guys. Especially when lunatics are walking into schools and killing children. I don’t think a gun control measure will stop it but I do think that we need to do something drastic.

The old dead guys created the best nation on earth and now people who question their wisdom are destroying it. That is obvious.

They actually put their lives and freedom on the line to create this country. We owe them a lot more than calling them old dead guys. Pretty disrespectful way to refer to the founding fathers.

It was actually @Crowmangler

You right wing fellas all look alike

Why not let’s all get over ourselves a little and either debate the topic or do something else.
To be fair, even though I occasionally call myself a Republican, I'm really more just anti government at this point. This place is wild lately, I'm just going to ignore these political posts for a bit....you fellas enjoy.

It is a simple statement of fact, not an insult. They are from old times therefore I call them old. They are dead so I said as much. They were men so I called them guys.

I don’t think they would have cared.

They were people with flaws just like the rest of us. You could say the same thing about any veteran and so could I. They weren’t gods, just men with some excellent ideas. What I was trying to say is that not all statements made in the late 1700’s can be applied to every situation in 2022. It doesn’t mean I think the ideas were without a ton of merit and that the principles don’t apply. I don’t want to see the second amendment trashed either. The discussion isn’t zero sum.
