My Harvester Evo 300 exploded today. I am in Wyoming on a hunting trip and went out to shoot to verify my zero. I checked to make sure my action screws, scope rings and suppressor were tight. I fired 3 shots and made an adjustment to my scope. On the next shot the suppressor exploded. About 3" of the suppressor remained on the barrel. We looked all over for the other pieces but could not find them in the sage brush. I was stunned and my ears are ringing. I am thankful my friends who were spotting my shots were not injured. Even though the suppressor exploded I did hit the 8" metal target at 200yards. I am shooting a .300WM TC Compass with a 20" barrel. The ammo was off the shelf Hornady 178 ELDMS. I have 5 and 1/2 boxes through the suppressor. I have emailed SilencerCo and will let you know what they have to say.

Sorry for your luck. They should be really helpful. They got my scythe turned around real quick but thats not going to help on your hunt which is why I will be taking my AB elk hunting this year even though its longer and heavier.

I had issues with a TC compass in 308 with baffel strikes in 2 different cans. IMO the barrel profile may not be strong enough to be 100% concentric once you add 1lb hanging off of it. Can’t explain it but it happened. Hope you can still hunt without the can.

It would be pretty strange to get a baffle strike after 110 rounds. This TC compass has a much thicker barrel than my Tikka and shoots lights out. My brother is hunting with me and using my Tikka. I'll use it after he tags out.

It’s just what SilencerCo cans do. I believe that is three different models that have failed like that?

I don’t think this is a very fair statement. I will say as a prior silencershop dealer, I didn’t send a single SiCo can back or hear about one blowing up for the 7-8 years I ran the shop.

They’ve had a few failures but so have every other company. For every can that’s blown up there’s 100,000+ of them out there that the user isn’t posting on the internet “hey my can didn’t blow up today.”

I had one 5.56 can fail on me personally but it was user error. They fixed it for me for free.

I have that can and it is rated for 300 WM with a 20" barrel. I am sure they will take care of you. I managed to get my mount stuck on mine. Totally, my fault. They paid for shiping to/from them and fixed the problem.

Looks like they recalled a bunch of suppressors back in 2023. I purchased mine July 10th 2024.

SilencerCo issued a safety recall in November 2023 for their Harvester EVO and other models purchased between June 1, 2023, and October 9, 2023, due to a potential welding defect that poses a safety risk. Customers should immediately stop using affected suppressors and check their serial number using the SilencerCo Recall Checker on their website to confirm if their model is affected

This does bring a good point though. A lot of people will bring a backup rifle, but maybe not a backup can. I’m going to make it a point to add another hunting can to the stable in 2026.

Are you thinking that the weight of the can on the end of the barrel bent it enough to cause a baffle strike?

I have thousands of rounds through silencerCo brand cans. Don’t buy into everything that you read. I have 4 evos my brother has at least that many and our scythes work like a charm. Probably a half dozen of the scythes between us and friends. I’m personally not using a scythe on my 300 but several friends are swapping it around because they don’t have very many cans. I can say from experience over years silincerCo cans just doing that is not the norm.

I mean there's a bit too much smoke for there to be no fire at all.

The brand loyalists have come out… How many other manufacturers out there are there who have had to recall suppressors and who have documented problems? A couple? On the other hand, there are plenty of other manufacturers who have a perfect safety record so far. Why take the chance if you have a choice?

Would you purchase a firearm from a company that had a 0.1% chance of the barrel bursting under normal use while following the restrictions in the manual? Or whose customer service tells you that the maximum ROF is 10 RPM and that it is listed in the manual, when it clearly isn’t?

If I had to carry a second suppressor because I was concerned that the first one was going to fail catastrophically, I would just buy a good suppressor.

I can’t speak to all TC compass, but a buddy and I both have one and have never had an issue of baffle strikes. This is with a silencerco specwar and 2 sico hybrids. Sound like maybe just a failure on the evo.

You have to realize that out of ALL the cans they sell, ANY of the defects WILL find their way onto the internet right?

If you think it’s impossible for any suppressor of any high end brand to fail, you’d be mistaken. Problems occur in manufacturing and nobody is without them. Some have more than others, sure. Also some brands sell leagues more than others so more problems will appear on the internet.

I didn’t say it was impossible. I said there are plenty of brands that have been around for a long time that haven’t had one fail yet.
