Drove up to Dawson Creek yesterday. Lots of heavy truck use and muddy roads. Today we started the Alaskan Highway and ended our day in Fort Nelson. Again lots of truck traffic and dirt/rock/mud on the road.......which led to a rock breaking our Taco's windshield. Luckily the break was in the upper right corner and didn't block the view.
Did see a cool red fox (silver morph) right before we arrived in Fort Nelson.

We had another great day and beautiful country. Started the day with a herd of elk feeding in some farm land just outside of Fort Nelson. Then we saw woodland caribou, bison, more caribou, more bison and finally a lynx as it ran across the road in front of us. Even managed to identify two Snow Buntings as they flew and landed next to the road. We finally ended the day in the Yukon at Watson Lake. Only three more days of driving. Only negative was another rock put a second crack in our windshield.

Awesome pictures, keep em coming, it brings back many memories from all the times I have driven the ALCAN. And don't think of the windshield cracks as negatives, think of them as a positive assimilation to Alaska. Its only fitting you show up to Alaska with an "Alaskan Windshield" in that Taco of yours!!! lol

Windshields tend to have a short lifespan up here. I just counted 16 chips in my truck windshield but no cracks so far, so no need to replace it. My wife's vehicle, on the other hand, probably needs replacement. It's a small price to pay for living in the greatest place on earth.

On the bright side, most insurance companies have a no deductible, or $50 deductible, windshield replacement these days if the divots can't be filled.

If windshields were made of the rare transparent unobtainium then all problems would be solved! Today we arrived in Whitehorse, YT. Drove through snow all day so no good views. The road was snow covered right till we got to Whitehorse so travel was slower. Tok, Alaska is the destination for tomorrow.

Back in the USA again. The drive was amazing up passed Destruction Bay and the Kluane Range. Saw lots of elk and two separate Northern Hawk Owls.....first time seeing those. Staying in Tok, AK tonight and then on to Anchorage. Will post more pictures when we get a better wifi signal. One more day of driving.

Reading this thread and seeing all the pics reminds me of the times I've driven the Alcan...no better scenery in the world for a road trip! So many awesome vistas on that stretch of road. Glad you made it safely!
