"Mountain Rifle Challenge" May 10

Bring a crew, we’ll get a head count closer to time. It should be a good time and opportunity to test your hunting setup.

Good to go. Sounds like my burger game better be on point.
Berger or burger? 😂 It was a great time.

I posted awhile back I'd make to this one if possible. It's mother's day weekend, so likely not. But if it is, I'll let you know

Negligent planning on the weekend chosen, still not sure my wife knows that Sunday is Mother’s Day, she did approve the date though.

Shoot that’s right. I think I now remember you mentioning on Saturday that this would be over Mother’s Day weekend.

I am likely out for this one too then. Sorry @Bluumoon

@Bluumoon was really hoping to be able to make this, but won't be able to get out again until early June. If you do another, please let us know.

Adding this to my list for next year. If I plan early enough I can make it.

A few of us from the AZ shooting day today were talking about making this trip happen. I plan to be there.

If anyone on my route up wants to carpool I’ll swing by and grab you.
Sweet! I am on the way north!

Edit, dang you’re out for Mother’s Day.

I am terrible at getting pictures and video. We need to agree to film each other so we remember and don’t feel weird asking…

Video is embarrassing but so helpful.

I’ll wear my hot pants, just make sure you get my good side.

Nobody wants to see that, but hard to hide from yourself when watching the video. I’m sure it would accelerate my learning to watch how many wasted movements/motions I go through when building shooting positions.

I take pride in minimizing motions being fast/smooth/efficient in my professional career, takes a level of criticism and proofing that I haven’t been subject to with shooting.

I fine w opt in/out video picture option. The course will force adaptation in shooting positions, would be interesting to see what works and doesn’t.

Im still more in than out at this point. Can you confirm a sight in range? How many targets? Rounds one should expect to use? Just a month into the initial announcement so wondering how things are planning out.

Looks like we'll have 6-8 guys, which will be a good number. The course kept growing over the last month, with more stations and targets added, so it's going to be a full day. Justin and I walked the course not long ago, mostly to discuss how to approach each station and how to more closely approximate hunting scenarios we've encountered. What we came up with is on more stations you'll only get a single shot per target. I expect it will take at 6-8 hrs to get through.

The goal for me with the course is to focus on time from spotting a target to putting an impact on it, improvising needed position. As such, most stations we'll approach as a group identify targets (gentleman's rule, no ranging target until you are up to shoot) and return to a holding area. Shooter will cross a "gate" or RO will say go to start your time depending on the station, from there it is a lot of choose your own adventure on how and where you shoot from.

There are around ~50 different targets varying target sizes (prairie dog to elk vital size)/shapes/color patterns. Ranges vary from 50 yards to 700ish, I was able to add more in the middle ranges (250-500yards) this year.

20 rounds will be needed for the hunter drill - https://rokslide.com/forums/threads...ice-posts-and-rifle-practice-shooting.165291/

Minimum 60 rounds for the 19 course stations.

I would dedicate 100 rounds to the course, if guys get antsy with single shots we can adjust the rules as we go.

There is certainly a place to check and zero rifles if needed, either day before or morning of.

Tentative scoring sheet. (Points x 100)/time

Group can decide if we want time caps/cutoffs or just let score speak for itself.
