"Mountain Rifle Challenge" May 10

The course was challenging and enjoyable. I never felt like it was the same shot over and over. The “don’t fall” shot really pushed my comfort zone.
A big thanks to @Bluumoon for hosting and setting up the course.
Thank you to @justinspicher for everything- including letting my boy eat all of his coco puffs.
One more shout out to pistachio for being a big teddy bear.

Mini h2so4 was a champ. Was fun to have him along.

I'm bummed I wasn't able to make this one. I figured it would be fun!

I've been tossing around the idea of putting up a course on maybe a 5-10 mile hiking loop in the high uintas for July, however I'm not sure if I'll be able to find enough time to scout the route and set it up. If I do, there will be a rokslide invite.

How did this go? Bummed out on missing it.

Had a ton of fun. Grateful that guys were willing to take a leap of faith and hang out w internet strangers.

Even w 5 guys, 20 stations was a bit ambitious. I’ll have to look, but we made it through 12-14 of what I had set up in 8.5-9hrs.

I enjoyed watching how others approached the different scenarios and really appreciate the honest feedback provided.

I think my favorite was “this is not a beginners course”, though I think there is enough flexibility to dial it in for different skill levels.

I’ll talk to the guys and see what pics and videos to post.

With out question, everyone shooting suppressed was amazing. Interesting listening to the difference in suppressors. End of the day @h2so4 went and rechecked zero while we were hanging out 350yards away, I didn’t hear any of his 10 shots with the smallest/loudest can of the day.

Rokslide mentality was on display, largest cartridge was 6CM x2, one 22CM, two .223s

Go big or go home, is what the kids used to say. Your scenarios were creative and engaging.

One big takeaway for me was how long it actually takes to get set up and shoot some of the scenarios. It feels like you got set up and shot in 30 seconds then you see it took you 3 times that long.
All the shots that were threading a needle sure made a guy work for it.

I need to get back to practice, I always took the longest to shoot.

Take away from our scoring. I like points/time, but we need par times/cut offs and likely time penalties for misses

Whatever the scoring, gotta give highest for first round hits and and penalties for misses.

Not taking a shot or timing out is just zero. It’s ethical so can’t be penalized.

Be interesting to see how many shots are taken if the miss penalty is great enough. If there is two shots on target, the miss is no penalty.

But, that takes some of the fun out of it. Seems like some stages should have the miss penalty and others not to mix it up.

Straight NRL hunter scoring works good too. It spreads out skill by points pretty well.

We didn’t discuss inclusion of the “hunter drill”. More target stands spread out would help decrease time commitment. I hated it, only because I sucked.

You could award higher points by faster time. Adjust time based on target scenario. Hits under 30 sec 5pts, hits 30-60 sec 3 pts and hits over 60 sec 1 pt. Miss could add time or deduct points.

Way too much math for me, lol.

Someone with spreadsheet Kung Fu could put that onto a tablet for score keeping.
