Same here. I can't stand social media. This and one other forum are it for me. Nobody can say anything about the InstaFace hardcores if they're keeping tabs on stuff like that, they're only enabling them!

One thing I have been thinking about reading this thread is the idea of "what it's really like out there" and the mental toughness neccessary to be "out there". What does that mean exactly? Being away from the comforts of home, physical exertion, or possibly staying focused on what you're doing? I guess - what is so hard about it? This post is meant as a genuine question and not sarcastic commentary.

I agree with all of that.

I watch way too many youtube hunting videos. But one thing is clear I am drawn to the more amateur videos. Not the way overproduced videos.

If a video contains, "Wow, I finally got one!" it's probably right up my alley.

No offense to the sheep hunters, but if you can dump 50k on a hunt, you can probably afford a sitter to make it to the gym a lot easier than the guy scratching together the special hunt application fees in his home state.

Remember when we were young kids in the back country? Sleeping on rocks with crappy sleeping bags. None of us realized we were “hardcore”. We never even thought about it either. We were just having fun with our Dads and buddies doing what we love.

I try my best to maintain that perspective. Especially now that I’m in my mid 30s with two young boys of my own.

Yes there are some good ones. We tried making our own, it’s not as easy as it looks. We ended up with a lot of dudes butts crawling (archery mule deer and antelope) and jumping really bad from the rifle report and missing the shot. It’s hard to look through a camera and not react to the noise for me.

Those solo hunter guys do a pretty good job getting shots whether you are a fan or not, videography is pretty good.

I disagree. There is a major difference between anonymous forum chatting on a site and narcissistic "advertisement of your brand, bro".

In the tradition sense you're correct but rokslide does not fall under the current symantec's of Social Media.

True, you have to have some talent for it. I don't care if its monetized or not, if Its good and there are some great ones out there.

It might be smaller than big SM but its SM in my book. People are connecting on a media platform, that equals SM to me.

I love par 3's (as my buddy calls them).......especially for hunting, but every now and then I just get the gumption to tackle a really long par 5. In hunting context I'll normally come out of it shooting a double bogey and will be covered in blood (sometimes even an animal's), but it's all part of the experience.
