How many animals do you hunt in a year?

Depends on year but:
1. Can shoot 1-2 Whitetail but dont.
2. Can Shoot 1-2 black bear but dont
3. Can shoot 1-2 turkeys but dont.
4. Can shoot a mountain lion but dont.
5. Hunt wolves but not successful every year
8. Hunt Elk. Usually one cow and one bull a year.
9. Draw hunts for sheep or moose locally if lucky.
10. Draw hunts in 5 states as non-res., 0-2 hunts per year

Waterfowl and uplands on and off. Shot Kings and Hali this year already.
Hunting outside NA as often as I can afford.

I can only kill 1 deer and 1 elk, but I spend as much time shooting coyotes, grouse, and pheasants.

My hunting season usually starts with grouse or pheasants in early September, depending on whether I am on the coast or high desert. If on the wet side, I will hunt blacktail deer. If I’m east of the cascades, I hunt mule deer and whitetails. I normally do all of my elk hunting on the coast.

Private land in my neck of the woods is low fence at the worst. It’s mostly all free range and is usually several hundred acres or more. What used to be “public” land is now all locked down and costs around $500 for a permit. Actual public land can be pretty crowded.

Heres a list, in order of my favorite to hunt, in Northwest Ga:

  • Whitetail
  • Turkey
  • Black bear
  • Hogs
  • Ducks
  • Fox
  • Bobcat
  • Coyotes
  • Squirrels

I typically do one western hunting trip. So far it’s has only been for elk. Then I come home to PA and hunt whitetails we can shoot 1 buck and up to 6 does. I usually trying getting around 3. Then it’s spring turkey season for me. That’s my typical year.

Used to be mule/blacktail deer, bear and bobcat with hounds, waterfowl, quail and mountain grouse, and turkeys until the lovely state of California banned the use of hounds. Started hunting pheasants and chukars and branching out to other states.

Moved out of California in 2021, hunted deer, antelope (unsuccessful), waterfowl, turkey, and upland in Nebraska and elk unsuccessfully Colorado. Met my now wife, who is from southern Nebraska, and moved down to Kansas so we could be closer to her folks.

Hunt deer, turkey, Waterfowl, Pheasants and quail, prairie chickens (unsuccessful but I try), doves and coyotes every year. I'm about 5-6 years from drawing an antelope tag in Kansas. Still hunt deer and small game in Nebraska.

So far this year bunko, no tags. Deer fall hunt draw coming soon. Maybe just maybe I'll :sneaky: get a decent deer tag. Otherwise off to Texas.

Elk, bull or cow
Mule deer buck only
Bear
Antelope every few years

All hunted in Colorado…. I need more vacation time!

Hi guys, as you can understand from my bad english i am not american. I always read your threads and i really like your way of hunting, much more than the rigid dogmatic way of central europe. In my country, Italy, we are lucky. Hunting is strictly regulated but you still have some freedom of movement after you survive to all the damned burocracy. And we can hunt basically as many animals as we want in two specific periods of the year on public land.

So i am curious about how many animals you kill each year and of which species on public land. I speak of public land because i assume most private land hunt are a joke like here in Italy, where basically the owner points you the deer and almost squeeze the trigger for you 😂

Edit: i like your hunting style so much (and without knowing it, i found out that is very similar to mine) that I will participate to a shoot to hunt class in the future if i manage to (trying to organize at the moment being on the other side of the planet!)
As many and as much as I can afford. My wife and daughters hunt with me to help stack the freezer between hunting seasons. I do all of our processing ( have never had anyone else do it since i started hunting). Hardly ever buy meat from the store

Moose, caribou, sheep. Got a muskox 2 years ago and I'll give goat a try this summer prob opening week

Pigs, goats and Blacktail deer year round. Axis deer and Mouflon sheep during the seasons every year.

Most years its just Sitka Blacktail for me. In a good year, I get a couple.
Occasionally I go down south and target Mule Deer. I've killed a couple of them in my life.

on any given year I will hunt
Pronghorn
Whitetail
Mule deer
Elk
Bear
Turkey
Ducks
Coyotes

Last year I didn't kill a Bear or a whitetail. it varies year to year. The year before I killed a bear but no pronghorn.

in Italy we can own basically any weapon (more than in the US actually) but hunting is allowed only with bolt actions on big games.
