Probably going to order a 6 creed from McGowan unless preferred has an equivalent Black Friday sale.

What contour is everyone ordering from McGowan? If I were to go with pbb I’d get the tikka lite contour I imagine.

I’m thinking I may not even thread the barrel. I won’t be running suppressed and with the creed I likely won’t put a brake on it either. It’ll save a few dollars not threading as well.

Planning to build a semi light rifle, not needing it to be 4 pounds though. Do I want to get the lightest contour? Or step up to something like the McGowan #2 or #3?

This will be my first prefit so I’m open to any suggestions.

Also debating between a 20-24”. With nothing hanging off the front should I just go 24”? Or enjoy the compactness of a 20”?

Thanks.

I ordered a blank from them and had my gunsmith chamber it 243win 8tw barrel.
I did a #3 Mcgowen contour. If I did it again I would go #2. Mine is 22” no muzzle device. It’s a shooter.
Hope that helps good luck.

What did yours weigh?

Debating mcgowan 1 or 2 or Tikka sporter contour (I think they'll do it as a custom). Don't want it threaded

I did not happen to weigh mine when I got it, but they post that their #3 with a 26” barrel is 3.5lbs. So probably under 3 or more at 22” that I ordered.
I think if putting it in a tikka sporter contour barrel channel, then get a tikka contour. If you have room a #2 I imagine would fit with some opening up for the shank. Someone on here had them cut it back an inch on the shank I thought that was a good idea.

They will do a tikka lite with a flared muzzle for 5/8-24 threads
Don't rly want threaded (can't shoot suppressed in HI and my kid doesn't need a brake). I guess have a copy of the tikka sporter or Douglas #1 or McGowan #1 is would be what I'm looking at now

got my 20" Douglas #1 for a lightweight 6cm Tikka build. 12 week turnaround exactly what I was quoted. hoping to spin it on this week, fit and finish looks good. shown next to 20in Tikka oem for comparison

Is that a prefit? What was the cost on a Douglas prefit?
its a prefit, Douglas #1 is just their lightest contour. I already spent way too much on a PVA prefit on another build this was a budget barrel for a youth build. with the 20% off sale it would have been around 375 shipped but I didn't want it to be too shiny so I added the $70 cerakote. you can ask for a custom contour like tikka lite OEM contour or the PBB Tikka hybrid lite contour but it's 35 more bucks. We can;t shoot suppressed here and I don't want my kid to be tempted to use a brake so this will be a 6mm hunting option in addition to the 223 trainer. will put it in a chassis with 6 position buttstock for quick lop adjustments

Have you shot this rifle? Any update on the Douglas barrel?

It was having feeding issues (they said it wasn't cut concentric) so I sent it back. Replacement barrel just went to cerakote so I should have it soon

EDIT replacement barrel also had issues loading rounds (tight chamber) so I sent it back and they gave me my money back.
