Maven RS1.2 2.5-15x44 new model

If they would fix the reticle, it wouldn’t be an issue. Should’ve have to rely on illumination. I find that the lack of a crosshair sux for daylight woods shooting, as well.

Do you find other FFP reticles on low power to be acceptable? Sounds like normal FFP use.

While this scope and reticle certainly works fine for short range whitetail hunts, I wouldn’t say it’s the optimum choice for that application. You likely won’t be using hold over/under as you aren’t shooting far enough. The reticle is better suited for mid/long range western hunt applications. Again, not that it doesn’t work fine for low light and woods whitetail.

I can see how you’d like another reticle choice for that application.

I have the RS1.2 and like it quite a bit. Glass is good, reticle is great for a precision hunting reticle, illum is meh bleeds quite a bit but would still be a benefit for hunting on low setting, parallax knob is pretty damn stiff. I mounted it in a static tracking fixture and tested elevation tracking to be nuts on perfect but only through 9 mils IIRC. My hunting rifles have all worn SWFA 3-9s or LRTS/LRHS variants for a while and I think this is a great option in that realm.

To me, the outer definition of the reticle is defining center when I am at low magnification. I don't need anything apparent actually pasting the POI to know what my POA is. My eye connects the bold left/right/top/bottom to tell me where the middle is. Just the same way that my bow only has pins at 20/30/40/50/60 but it's easy and intuitive to shoot 32yds or 45yds in the gap.

That goes for any FFP reticle on low power, the stuff in the middle is irrelevant and the outer stuff is the guide for your eye.

For sure. To your point the outter bars could be thicker. But they’re not preventing shots as they are now.

This weekend our group killed 4 Javelina, 7 coyotes, and missed high on a bedded Mt Lion at 744 yards. Follow up shot at 620 yards also missed due to either an improper wind call by yours truly or a missed wind hold by the shooter. I think she held left instead of right but who knows in the heat of the moment. Shit happens.

All but one shooter was using the Maven RS1.2 with SHR MIL reticle, with shots from 207 yards to 862 yards. Light conditions were high noon sun to couldn’t even see the animal bare eyes due to being so dark.

There was zero issue with not having a “cross hair” in the reticle and no illumination was used. Scopes are left on 6-8x and occasionally zoomed into around 10-12x depending on shooter.

THLR still better than the rs1.2 reticle ?
What's the context for your question?

From one perspective, this is a bit of a moot point - the THLR reticle is only available on one scope, which has a higher mag range than needed for most hunting, and a higher weight than most would want to carry. Better reticle or not on the ZP5, the RS1.2 is in a package more suited to hunting.

On the other hand, the THLR reticle has a lot of features that make a lot of intuitive sense ... once you understand how they're used, if that makes sense. Not all necessary for hunting, but they give a lot of 'in-reticle' solutions for long-range shooting.

Beyond hunting applications, the ZP5 would likely be the better option for long-range / field shooting / sniper matches, while the RS1.2 might work better for rimfire matches (shorter parallax) or DMR matches (lighter and lower mag range).

Have you read the entire ZP5 eval and the Q&A thread? That might help you come to your own conclusion.

Or, if there are specific contexts, criteria, or parameters you have for your question, then people familiar with both reticles - such as @Reburn @mxgsfmdpx and @Formidilosus might be able to help.

Doesn’t work that way for me. I can gap shoot pins all day long, but that’s closer range and everything is way easier to see than the center of a scope with no crosshair. I don’t like guessing where my aiming point is on a scope. It’s not a guessing game with pins on a bow sight, so a bery apples to oranges comparison.
