Maven RS1.2 Failure?!?

I sold one and while in transport it broke. That’s why I have a negative mark on my profile. Not sure what happened but from what the guy explained to me a small screw was floating around the elevation housing inside the cap.

That sounds like the grub screw that you remove to set the zero stop?

I couldn’t tell ya. It was sheered off from what I understand. I used it a few days prior with zero issues so maybe it broke when I returned to zero after my last shot. Hard to say.

I'm curious how Maven handled his claim. I read the feedback from him on your profile and won't be dealing with that individual.

The saddle mount system has always being amazingly precise when switching scopes. If it can fail easily, I would love to know.

I can't tell if you mean that you dropped it intentionally or accidentally?

Either way, it seems relevant to note that Form's "drop tests" are attached to the rifle and also onto padded ground.

I'm unfamiliar with Blaser saddle mounts. Is this a quick detach system?

It was unintentional.

It was also a very light drop, directly into the top turret, only the saddle mount being attached added any weight to the drop.

I wish I could be more accurate about how far off the scope was prior to the drop. I have a 9 inch gong at 650 that does not have an immediate background for me to guage how far off a miss is. I just know that there was no wind and I was missing it. I usually don’t miss that shot if there’s no wind. Let alone miss it over and over again. That’s when I started pulling things apart.

I don't want anything to do with the rifle, and I would be about a month away from being able to drop test the scope on one of my rifles. If that isn't too long you can PM me.

I'm a bit lost and probably reading it wrong...

Did the scope lose zero before the 8-10" drop on hard ground or after?

If before, how far off was it?

After the drop it shifted 1.3 MILs?

The scope seemed off, as described in the reply above.

After the drop, for sure, it had shifted 1.3 mils.

I know it was 1.3 mils because my ballistic solver called for 2.8 mils at 510 yards. I have a 24 inch painted steel plate at that distance that I use to verify elevation. I had to dial to 4 mils to strike the orange horizontal line I use to check elevation.

Additionally, the zero stop had been set prior to this drop. When i re-zeroed the turret by loosening the cap at the 4 mils setting and then re-tightening it down on “2.8 mils”, the zero stop was now set below zero by over a mil.

So something shifted for sure.

The Blaser saddle joint while excellent for RTXZ when dismounting and remounting, is also the #1 question mark for durability of the R8 system. I highly doubt that it is truly solid and stable when it takes side impacts.

I’ll send you one for prolonged testing. I have two, I just need to get a bolt head and bolt so I I can use the other for my hunt that’s coming up. I’m most curious about the trigger in freezing rain etc. it’s a totally different design and would love to know how it stacks up.

I have an Akila Bear8 project being built. If the saddle mounts fail in your testing, I’ll just get a block with an integral 20 MOA rail. No way that will fail.

That certainly seems like it would rule out the rifle.

I hate to suggest breaking up a proven setup but have you considered putting the Maven in the mount that the SWFA is currently in? To rule out it being a mount issue so you can truly narrow it down to a probable scope issue.

I'm not fanatical about any scope brand so I imagine some percentage of RS1.2's will fail. Just like a small percentage of NF scopes will fail. It's all a numbers game to me and about which scopes are better bets when rolling the dice.

I have not tried switching mounts.

I suppose it is possible that it’s the mount. However, I am doubtful about that. I would think windage would be more what’s affected if it were loose. Without having seen a Blaser mount, it’s a little tough to describe but there’s not an opportunity for the scope to be “out of plain”. The tolerances are very very precise.

Left to right shift, from a loose mount, that’s more plausible.

I am not a fan of Maven as a brand in general, particularly the ego/lack of overall understanding of the ownership group. They don't even make anything themselves, which I'm sure you are aware.

The RS1.2 scope flat out works, many of us with sample sizes over half a dozen or a dozen personal scopes in heavy use.

When someone is trying to help diagnose a known/good scope potential issue, the goal is not to "question them" or "blame them" based on whatever koolaid you assume folks are drinking. It's to help identify the root cause, and if it is the scope, help us all learn moving forward.

Which scopes are A's and A-'s? Lack of options is why a B+ get recommended and as soon as something better comes along people will pivot.

That's my perspective of the issue anyways and I don't even own one.

I swapped back and forth three times between the SWFA and the Maven in the Blaser saddle mounts. I *think* I may be able to see one tenth of a mil of elevation error sometimes. That could easily be either my shooting (likely) or just the barrel shifting from heat. I’m at 15-20 shots doing this.

That’s odd that such a seemingly small impact caused it to shift. My entire Howa mini with scope attached fell out of my gun vise on my bench and landed on the top turret on tile floor and suffered no discernible shift.

It was off 1.3 mils in elevation. I did not check at 100 yards, I checked it on my 500 yards steel target. Then I verify it on my 650 yard circle plate because you can’t bullshit that one. Windage was fine.

I’m going to send the whole setup to Form to torture. I’m curious to see if that Blaser mount can hang.
