Pick the reticle that suits your sensibilities. I have a lot of time with both scopes and they're both good.

This is Rokslide, they'll take iron sights over a Leupold or Vortex.

I will tell you this, I bought a Maven RS1.2 and sold a VX-5HD. Would have saved money just keeping the VX-5HD but I didn't.

Okay sounds good. I just wanted to make sure. I like the clarity of my VX5HD but if it doesnt hold zero then ill move on to another optic like the Maven that does

I think the Maven clarity is better, but loved the lighter weight of the Leupold. Millions of people use them and are happy with them, so take it FWIW. I'll probably sell the Maven and go with a lighter weight Trijicon, some sort of Accupoint probably. I just have some serious A.D.D. trying to build my forever rifle.

I can’t answer the vx6, but I had a vx5 and far preferred the Maven for function, clarity, and durability. the leupold was promptly sold.

Yeah I understand that. I have Run Vortex Vipers up to this point and now that I have the budget I just want something bombproof that will hold zero. I like the SWFA but i am a MOA guy so that wont work since their only model with a paralax adjustment is MRAD only. Never heard of LRHS2....

If you've been using MOA scopes to this point, and want to go to something more expensive, it could be worth considering making the switch to a mil-based scope.

Some people will tell you that "it's hard to learn mils if you're used to MOA", "MOA allows for finer adjustments", "mils are only useful if you use metric", "they're really the same, just use either", and so on. All of these things are either inaccurate or demonstrably not true.

Many of us have made the shift to mils, and would never go back.

Better to do it now when moving to a more expensive scope than later, when you have to then replace expensive scopes.

Same here. When I read about wind brackets, I started to think about shifting to mils. Then I read about quick drop and I had to do it. It was way easier than I thought.

Dialed my first quick drop on a white tail doe this year. 322 yards, 1.2mils, one shot B/F. So darn easy.

The only time I can see mils not being better is if you always hunt in an area with DA that throws the quick drop method out the window, or if you're shooting a cartridge that throws it off.

It doesn't work so well with my 108eldm going 2900 at a DA of 12000ft passed 450 yards.

I was remembering that incorrectly. The wind bracketing works for any cartridge unless you have a huge change in DA.... Like 12k to 1k ft. Then it still mostly works.

My quick drop gets funky around 500.

Far as I can tell it always works close enough for hunting distances. Yes, the MPH # might change a bit with DA but that is an easy adjustment.

I was taught (from reading here and the S2H class) that quick drop is not really intended for use much beyond 500 yards as it’s less consistent at further distances. Additionally, the margin for error is significant enough with elevation/wind for longer shots that many people rely on a calculator or at least the phone lock screen at ranges beyond 500. Quick drop is meant for quick shots and rarely are people shooting quickly at ranges beyond 500 yards, probably much closer for most.
