if you are enrolled in any schooling for the internship ( or just the minimum resident requirements) you can get resident license fees plus the first time buyer discount. I think my first year of college I paid $5 for about every license I bought

When you get there and if you are a fan of mustard, try and get your hands on a bottle Ringhands Beer Mustard. It is handmade in Evansville buy a former state senator, Janis Ringhand. My sister lives in Evansville and she ships me a couple every year.
Speaking of mustard, run over to Monroe and go into Baumgartners Cheese store and Tavern. Bellie up to the bar and have one of their many sandwiches smothered with Baumdartners mustard and a cold beer, by far the best I ever had. Take a nice hunk of baby Swiss Swiss and dip it in the mustard, a match made in heaven. I am from Wis. but seldom make it back any more. Baumgartners no longer ships the mustard, but I was able to find it at the Mustard museum. I always order ten jars at a time. While growing up there, I spent many days fishing and exploring the many rivers and lakes Wis. had to offer. It will always be home.

Lifelong wi native and lived in Madison 7 years. Agree with the above stated trout fishing and the lakes surrounding the isthmus are solid. Wisconsin river public is accessible by most of the river and a great spot to deer hunt. Lots of big bucks killed in the southern portion of WI.

Madison is a great town. Friendly people and plenty to do.

Up by Wausau, several hour drive North of Madison, there is a range with 1000 yd line. Driftless area is good trout fishing, even over into Iowa. Iowa does not have the trout season like Wi does. Tags and license sg=hould be cheap with first time buyer fees. I would say go to Lake Michigan to Salmon fish from a charter but not sure how many will be running in the time you are here.

Good luck. Wisconsin is really a beautiful state, well, less the snow.
Thanks. After the winter we had here in SD I can accept it
And the cold. Some of my walks to classes were brutal in the winter.
That's the reason I bought an ice fishing coat a few winters ago. Not because I ice fish, but because I thought about sports that require you to stand out in the cold and you still be warm. Only took me 36 years...but I got there eventually.

Madison will be downright balmy coming from SD.

Go to Recobs in Prairie Du Sac. It's maybe half an hour if I recall north of Madison. They usually have everything you could possibly need.

If anyone can find 209 primers and Allient green dot powder, tell me where if you would. The place I had always got my shotgun reloading components from has had virtually none of what I need. They did have one 8 pound canister of green dot powder the other day, $311, I don't really need that much.

If you are talking about the Marathon County range it is only 600 yards and must be part of the long distance club to use that portion of the range.

Grew up there, parents now live in Deerfield. Did a lot of hunting in Gays Mills (Crawford county…driftless region). Love WI and it’ll always be home. Parents owned (and sold) a marina (Inland Boats) on the Yahara River, which connects most of the Madison lakes.

Love that state…

Say it louder for the people in the back. Most have not in common with their liberal neighbors than the republican politicians and vice versa. It’s exhausting. Divided we fall.

Wisconsin is pretty great. Lake Superior to the north and Lake Michigan to the east. Mississippi river and drift less area to the west. Big bucks, ducks and more fish than can count.
My dog's breeder is a carpenter and and goes to LaCrosse for a month or so each fall to hunt waterfowl. It'd be sweet to have that kind of hunting close.

Went to school there. Lake Wingra is a smaller lake that’s connected to Monona. Great musky lake and every spring there’s a musky run from the big lakes to Wingra. It’s crazy watching 40+ inch muskies jumping up and over the Wingra damn.

Hey everyone. I may be moving to Madison WI for an internship next year from January -July. What are the decent ranges and/or fly streams to hit up. Thank you.
Grew up there! An amazing place. You will love it. Probably more so in the may to July timeframe haha. I’ve fished the Driftless a ton. If you want some more detailed info feel free to send me a PM
