Definitely be prepared to fly fish the driftless. As many have said, the WI DNR maps trout streams. Maps are available by county here: https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/Fishing/trout/streammaps Also, lots of ice fishing on the lakes in Madison.

Madison isnt all bad. Theres tons of hiking and biking to do, a few good breweries (close to New Glarus). McMiller Sports Complex is about an hour drive but has some good ranges and 3d archery.

Ahh yes, If you're a beer fanatic, New Glarus Brewing Company is outstanding. Try the Spotted Cow. Funny thing about that brewery is they only sell their beer in WI.

I used to brew my own and I have had the pleasure of drinking the spotted cow. There also used to be....The Great Dane if memory recalls. Amazing food.

I also went to college there, did lots of ice fishing on Mendota and did some bowfishing there as well. One of my buddies was a hardcore musky guy and was out on Monona pretty much every day after them. He’s pulled some big fish out of that lake.

Some good restaurants throughout the city and the farmers market around the Capitol has some good stuff.

The last few times I’ve been home I’ve been seeing more stuff on the shelves. There’s a Cabelas in Sun Prairie and Fleet Farm in DeForest that will have some stuff. If you want to drive a little further Midwestern Shooters Supply in Lomira usually has a pretty good selection.

I think you'll like Madison and Wisconsin in general alot. I lived in Waukesha(SE WI) for 8 years growing up. Wisconsin will always have a special place in my heart. Incredible fishing and waterfowl hunting.

But I digress. I was in Madison in 2021 spring to pick up my dog from his breeder in Rapids. I was surprised how much I really enjoyed WI and wish I'd given myself more time to explore. So many rivers. The heavy timber. Madison was busy but when you went north that changed. And I didn't mind Madison.

Wisconsin is pretty great. Lake Superior to the north and Lake Michigan to the east. Mississippi river and drift less area to the west. Big bucks, ducks and more fish than can count.

Despite the recent South Dakota Ad campaign our Governor has been pushing. We don't want more people as well, so please disregard her. I'm more of a pheasant guy who dreams of one day taking a deer but isn't happening anytime soon. I also enjoy fishing and hitting steel.

Didn’t say that it would. But if you have a family, you may or may not want them raised in that environment. I’ve never been somewhere where that agenda was pushed as heavily as the Madison area.
