I’ve had a run of squirrels in my trucks the last few years. It’s a pain in the butt and they cause a lot of damage. Last one I wrenched out involved, some needle nose pliers, a can of compressed liquid, and my catahoula dog.

First thing you should do is kill it. You don’t want to mess with a squirrel when it’s got no choice but to fight. Per the previous posts, anything starting with .3 and ending with magnum from point blank range will do the trick. Don’t forget to compensate for height over bore. You may have to patch a hole in your truck afterwards

Do you think mono or fragmenting bullets for this? Obviously the shot will need to go stem to stern.

If you need full penetration, I’d go monos, but it really depends on whether it’s got a summer or winter coat as that will affect the bullets ability to penetrate to the vitals

Make sure to have at least 3 rounds in the magazine incase you need a follow up or two. As they say, shoot until it’s done moving

You’re going to want something solid. Think fmj. Last thing you’re going to want is no exit in the engine block and have to fish that bullet out of your cylinder walls.

Wife and I were coming back from pulling trail cameras once. Driving down the highway at 60, just cruising and a squirrel runs out of the trees. I didn’t hit the squirrel, it committed suicide by running into my tire.

I’m sorry for your loss. I’ve heard of terrible tragedies when people hit squirrels on the highway. Entire families being wiped out. We unfortunately just lost a family of 8 the other day when a Delmarva Fox Squirrel (THATS RIGHT WE HAVE THEM SUCKER) Plowed through their windshield and decapitated all of them before their minivan rolled and burst into flames.

I still dream of being able to hunt one of those fellas if they ever become legal
