I interviewed for a job today. Long story short it’s 4,10’s straight days, it’s maintenance so most of the work is done on weekends but every other weekend you get fri, sat, sun, mon off. I haven’t been offered anything, I’m considering at this point. It’s only a couple miles from home which is better than the 30 miles each way I have now. Does anyone work a schedule like that? Seems like you could get a lot of cool stuff done on the long weekend.

Do you have a family? That might sway into your decision. I did it for a few years in my 20's and I personally wouldn't do it again. Having kids and friends etc. with last minute plans that come up on the weekends are pretty hard to field if they come up. Do you hunt fish with anyone else? Might be hard to capitalize on the Fri/Mon portion of that if your hunting buddy isn't on the same schedule.

Wife no kids. Hunt by myself other than a couple weekends a year

I would imagine that part of their hook will be all the weekend hours are straight time. If that is true and you get forced to cover the opposite crew, you might loose A LOT of weekends and get bitter about the OT they don't pay.

I think it’s M-T off Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
T-F the next week then off Saturday and Sunday.

If I’m reading it right.

My factory job offered what you were willing to accept, not what was fair. One schedule was called "crazy 8's".

Eight days in a row straight time, two days off. Eventually you would roll around to the two weekends in a row you got off. IF people were not sick, or on vacation or staffing was low. 6 weekends working and not one was OT. And the eight days in a row fell on 2 different pay weeks. Again, no OT.
I'm no longer vulnerable to this BS. My FU money ain't huge but enough.

Our line crew works 4-10’s with alternating fridays and mondays off. So you get a 4 day weekend every other weekend and never more than a 4 day workweek.

I haven’t done it, I rotate days and nights, but it sounds like nirvana to me. If only the money was there..

Not the same but I can speak to the days off. I worked a Dupont schedule for 25 years. We rotated nights to days and it was 12 hour shifts with nights, weekends and Hollidays. It worked out but I missed lots of the kids games and Hollidays. It afforded me an early retirement and I always spent my weekdays off hunting and fishing while the kids were in school and the wife was working. My weekends off were spent with family unless of course it was a major hunting weekend. You can get a lot of stuff done pretty quick when others are at work.
If I could do it over I wouldn't change a thing. Probably the reason we were was able to stay married 33 years.

Yeah I spent a couple years with a place that would do anything you let them get away with. I’m pretty gunshy now

I guess I don’t care about the money too much as it’s about the same as I make now. I’ve worked a lot the last couple years and I’m more interested in my time now. I live in a cool place, and own some land and I have a side hustle and it’s tough to give it much attention working five days and commuting 40 minutes each way.

Years ago I worked a 4/10 shift. Half the shop had mondays off and the other half had fridays off. Stat holidays made it a 4 day weekend. I loved it. I would jump at the chance to get a 4 day weekend every second weekend.

4-10s is the best schedule in my opinion. You get more full days off, but unlike working 12s have time to do a few things on work days other than eat and sleep.

Right now I'm the only full time person in the office, so I have every Friday off unless I pick up a day. About to get a full time partner in crime and not sure how we will work it out yet.
