Thanks for this. I hate NYT but the article was good. Still, the little libby author had to state he wouldnt hunt or if he appreciated it at the end. But, then again, NYT wouldnt have likely kept him employed if he showed the slightest sign of like meat and hunting.

Glad they didnt hang him out to dry like they did Evan.

By the time Rinella’s group reached the dead deer, the sky had gone dark enough to see the first stars. An inner circle of hunters flanked by cameramen stood around the buck, which was lying on its side in the back of a pickup truck. “He’s thin, man,” Rinella said, running his hand down the buck’s rib cage the way you’d pet a sleeping dog. Illuminated by the headlights of two pickup trucks, the hunters pulled the deer’s body down into the dirt and deftly slit open its underbelly from anus to sternum. After slicing through the muscle, Newcomb tugged the innards out, extracting the heart, a fistful of maroon-colored flesh ragged on one side where the bullet went through.

Just wanted to thank you for the CTL-A CTL-C tip. :)

Article mentions Don Jr going after Meateater. I couldn’t find anything. Anyone know what this writer is talking about?

Field Ethos was started by Don jr and some other guys. They have a kind of “edgy” presentation, although in don’t think Don jr does any real posting from the field ethos site. They have a thing where people ask questions and they give snarky answers. It’s a bit of a schtick. My guess is the writer scoured their pages and found some comments. They made a comment the other day about this very article.

It’s all a game to drive commerce - from both sides.

I haven't read the article, but like him or not, Rinella has done a lot of good for hunting IMO. However, there is plenty that Meateater has done/posted (Putellis) that I think is total crap.

The Field Ethos guys are an interesting group. They promote themselves as the total opposite of meat eater. They act with a ton of bravado and machismo and honestly it's a little obnoxious as well. I liked them originally but his crap gets real old real quick too. Like anything else with social media these days, take it all with a grain of salt.

Field Ethos is very good at posting pictures from old movies on Instagram

Anything in particular?
Curious to hear this as well - I know some Meateater guys let their personal political views shine through more than others, and Janis is definitely one of them. My guess is that's all he was referring to.

You can't deny the good they've done for the "image" of hunting, and hunters, to people who would go their whole lives without ever interacting with a hunter. I'm pretty young, and the reaction I get now telling people I hunt vs. a few years ago is totally different. Maybe that's because I'm more well versed in the conservation-and-food talking points than I was back then. But I also think companies like Meateater and "field to table" type media help a lot.
