I had a scope in some QD rings on an AR. I never found that you could actually hold a reliable zero when taking them on and off. Always had to re-zero if you wanted something better than 10MOA from where you sighted it. I figured it was for the guys that only bore sighted and said good nuff and went hunting.
I've had better luck, both with my Kimber and my AR. Usually no adjustment is needed.

I was thinking of farrell low or Swfa low with Leupold pic rail on my kimber 270, depending on clearance. Im putting a swfa 3-9 on my Montana. Anyone tried low farrell rings on a kimber?
A. Look up the hight of your rail.
B. Look up the hight of your rings to center.
C. Look of the outer diameter of your objective.

If A+B equals or is greater than C/2 it will fit (The top of the action is slightly higher than the top of the barrel).

I use the sportsmatch on my tikkas but this thread is specifically for my Kimber.
Got it.

The first post said "a few of my rifles"; don't think it mentioned the Kimber.

I'll leave the info about the Spuhr and link to the rail thread in case that's helpful for anyone else. :)

I don’t care, I was just hoping for info about rings that would go on a rail. Feel free to post whatever you want.

Not that you asked, but for weight my rail and NF low rings come in at 4.3 ounces. I took a hacksaw to the rail though. I shortened it, and the side cut gives easier access to the blind magazine while maintaining the advantages of a one piece rail.20200705_180644.jpg

I have thought for a long while, why doesn’t any manufacturer do exactly this?

I have been very happy with Leupold PRW2 rings and would also add another vote for Burris XTR two-piece bases. They are not the tacticool chunky aluminum rings that everyone now thinks they need, but they have held up perfectly over the last 10 years and are machined from steel.

Again, they don’t have those bases for the rifle I’m dealing with. If they did, that’s what I’d get.

They used to. IIRC, They were Bushnell or B&L. I have one for a lefty 700. Slots are weaver, but they can be opened up for pic rings.

I really like my Hawkins hybrids. No pic rail needed.
I have a set as well but since they are directional I can’t quite get it far enough back with SHV, so 3-9 SWFA going on instead. This is a short action.

The SWFA are basically free compared to others it seems. Are the 1” inserts they come with solid?

Most likely; but finding a solid 1" scope is the problem with that approach.

I haven't ever used the inserts.

Sometimes they are free: The first sets I used came as package deals for sales, and the rings were basically thrown in for free.
