I absolutely LOVE my Leveraction!
I have walked with it numerous times this season.
It is a Model 94 30-30 from 1980. I know it’s not a”pre 64” but it shoots accurately and it is such a pleasure to carry, especially in the close worlds I love to hunt here in the northeast.
Light of weight, balanced, agile, and quick to aim….
I hand load the Hornady FTX 160s with Leverevolution powder and this potentially makes my rifle a 200 yd gun, but with peeps I’m only shooting out to 100 or so. Also where I hunt with it there are not many instances where one can see more than 50 yards.
The seasons not over here yet and I’m certain I’ll be carrying this rifle again a couple more time before it is.
I have peep sights on it as my older eyes don’t see the buckhorn sights well any longer.
I currently have a Williams receiver sight on it and it works really well. I’ve tried a Skinner barrel mounted peep sight but had a few problems with it and with the hunting season coming I went back to the Williams.
I’ll be playing more with the Skinner to see if I can get that to what it needs to be in the off season.

I inherited a 30-30 that I plan to use on a hunt sooner or later as a tribute but need the right hunt. Most of my hunts are at ranges beyond that caliber but something will fall into place sooner or later to draw blood.

Have a early 50s Winchester 94 in .32 Win Special, great gun in the woods, don't know that I'd push much past 100yds with it myself. Probably a skill issue there though.

I quit using my 30-30 and 35 Rem because everytime I take them out to hunt close in spots, I end up seeing good sized deer at long distance walking in or out and wish I had one of my BLRs.

Bullet technology + powder advancement has put 100 year old lever action cartridges capable to take larger game at longer distances. The 30-30 ain’t your daddy’s 30-30😉
