Why wouldn't you just buy another bolt and spin on a 6mm barrel better suited for PRS competitions? When hunting season rolls in, swap everything back to the 300wm.

I can think of 2 reasons:
  1. A dedicated gaming rifle would likely want a heavier stock/chassis
  2. It's a hassle to re-zero every time you swap barrels. If range trip time is limited, it's nice to shoot your various rifles in a single trip without having to deal with swapping barrels / re-zeroing.

Exactly this. I have multiple hunting rifles already and am ready for a dedicated PRS rig and possibly a .22LR trainer for rimfire competitions. It’s a sport I really want to get into but it’s definitely easier with with some or most of the cost offset by selling other rigs is all.

I’ve got an 18” X-Caliber #5 contour barrel in 260 Rem to swap in on my T3 Superlite. I’m using a Crown Ridge Barrel Works nut and picked up a Down Range thread protector.
I know that would require some work on the stock to fit the barrel, but would it fit in a Roughtech or Varmint stock without having to modify the stock (opening the channel)?

I’ve seen some awesome builds and it’s gotten the juices flowing for this old guy to do the same. The kicker is I want to build it in the new 6.8 Western caliber but I can’t seem to find any of the prefit barrel manufacturers that make them. Possibly I missed something but asking the brain trust here if y’all know of a manufacture that does?
I know there is the .270 WSM or the 6.5 PRC but neither one shoots the 160+ grain bullets that I’m looking to do.

TIA

Many of them have the reamers now to deep chamber...They may not have updated their websites yet. You may want to call and find out.

If your building a custom anyways the 270 wsm will do anything the western will. Just get a fast twist barrel and throat it for the heavy .277 bullets

This or just go 7SAUM for the better bullet options.

i looked at the 7SAUM but I don’t reload and the 6.8 ammo is quite easy to find in my area and have yet to see factory fodder on the shelf for the SAUM.

Thanks guys, when I did a search on the web I didn’t get many hits. But going to individual sights I do see some offering in that caliber.
