Thanks guys. It was so much fun I rebooked for an October 2015 hunt.

The goat wasnt all that big just hard to get good pics on the side of a cliff. He was saved by a boulder from rolling 700' to bottom.

That's my sister's rifle, a Kimber 7-08.

I knew another hunter with a permit, so the following day we took one of the other good goats in that area - 9.5" and around 46 in score.

We were in the Madison Range of Montana, and it's not a real "trophy goat" unit, but some of the most beautiful country in Montana. Hey Kurt, Great pics on your facebook page! I see you were using a metcalf bag on this hunt, how do you like the bag? Was it a pain not having any external pockets? Is there any chance you know what the weight of the bag is without the frame and daypack lid? Ive been thinking of adding it to my 6500. I was thinkinking I woill use the 6500 for backpack hunts and the metcalf for day hunts.

The bag is under 2lbs. The 6500 has always been too much bag for me, I've used it for longer trips, but it's still never full. The way I carry stuff, tripod and spotter strapped outside of a pack, the metcalf is ideal to me, without pockets, and the full length side zip. Even though it's lighter than the Longbow, if I were to use a bag for a "day hunt", I would use the longbow. If I'm carrying a lot of gear in, I'd use the metcalf. I really liked this back pack, I'm sure it will be my new meat hauler also. 3600 cubic inches of meat is well over 100#.

Here is the goat I killed in the Mission Mountain Wilderness in Montana back in 1992. The second pic is from a goat hunt in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. We were on our way out at the top of Smith Creek Pass. That was a 15 mile day to get back to the truck. I need to get back in shape!

Damn. That's a 'man-day' in the snow. If there is one thing I hate, it's walking long range in the snow. That's probably one of the reasons why I love September so much.
