Spotting Scope for Goats

I usually use a Kowa 553 when I’m goat hunting, especially if I’m going solo. You can judge goats through it just fine and it is really compact and lightweight. The glass quality is excellent, the FOV is much tighter than a larger spotter however. I locate with my binos and judge with the spotter so the FOV doesn’t bug me much.

I have sheep hunted with the 553 as well and it works, for sheep specifically I have a Swaro 85 that I prefer.

I like the swaro STC
Also Ben Reynolds who is an Alaskan sheep hunt ( killed a # of sheep) and is also on the slide I believe has switched to the swaro compact and doesn't feel limited with it.
If I was going to buy another compact spotter I would consider the Kowa as the swaro focus is very touchy on refining the focus

Like Skipper said, the Swaro ATC I have is the ultimate lightweight scope for goats imo. I bought it before the new Kowa 55a came out. Both are really good and basically equal, except for the focus wheel design. I’ve used the ATC for sheep as well, but generally prefer the Swaro 66a for that.

A good compromise between size/weight, and the power of an 88, would be a Kowa 66s/a. I have a 554, 66s and 884. Naturally the 66s gives up a bit to the 884, but very little. For the size/weight savings, I'd take the 66s if my legs were still young enough for a goat/ sheep hunt. The 884 is strictly a scouter from the truck these days, unless I have some youngblood along to haul it in the field. For antelope, mulies and elk, the 554 had a permanent ride in my pack, but now splits time with the 66s.

I really like my x33 vortex razor HD. I used it on my archery hunt and recording prairie dog shots. It's small and powerful- I did a review of it on here last September-October. Can't remember how much it was so I am sorry if it's over your limit.

I use a Swaro STX65 for my tahr and chamois hunting, trying really hard to go after older animals. Pretty keen to get hands on with a ATC to lighten the pack and still be able to see length of horns before getting closer to inspect age range
