Does anyone use the pre-moistened lens wipes on your optics? The ones I'm specifically refering to are the Bausch & Lomb brand wipes for eyeglasses. Does anyone know if the alcohol harms the coatings?

I have access to a bunch of them and was thinking about throwing a two or three in my pack to clean the binos/spotter up if needed.

me too. i have pallets of the things at work.

but i dont use them. i think if you have a grain of sand..wiping with one of those things will drag it across your lens..and some optic engineer somewhere in the world will feel a stabbing pain to his eye..

if your talking swavos..i think an angel looses a feather.

i use a soft camera lens brush. it is always with me in my pack. if my optics get horrific..i have been known to use gentle running water.

I'm getting to where I don't like using my little lens wiper thing that attaches to my harness, and was looking at those wipes too. Interested to hear what everyone has to say.

I was thinking more along the lines of smudges, but I could see how some dirt could cause some issues.

Isopropyl alcohol will not harm the lenses or coatings (that is what is in the optic cleaning solutions anyway). Dragging debris with the wipe might scratch the coatings though.

I think I may do a video on what I do for cleaning optics at home and in the field. YMMV from what I do of course.

Next time thru the cosmetic section at walgreens pick up a make up brush, the big poofy ones that are real hair, and keep it clean in a zip bag or whatever. Dont use rubbing alcohol as contains lanolin an oily substace. Believe the amonia in products like windex will eat at coatings and synthetic screens like on phone.

I won't use any chemicals on my lens. I just blow off the lens, fog it with breath, and wipe with an appropriate cloth. Shake off the cloth well before touching the lens with it in case it picked up any debris. I try to clean as infrequently as possible as I feel cleaning is about the worst thing we do to our high-price optics. I cringe every time I clean. Bottom line, use the covers supplied with your optics, and try as best you can to keep them clean.

I have used the B&L wipes many times and haven't seen any damage. I unscrew and remove the eyecups before I clean so I don't drag debris across the glass.
