Pretty self explanatory but I wish I had learned this years ago. Deer love to come from the 'wrong' side when I'm sitting and simply switching hands is a lot easier than trying to shift around your position.

I did that two years ago during firearms season. I was set up at the edge of some cedars overlooking a field, sitting on a stool with my rifle resting on my trigger stick tripod. The deer came from the exact opposite direction I was expecting. They checked me out for a few minutes before finally putting their heads down to feed. No way I could have moved enough to pivot my entire body around as they were at 125 yards with no cover between me and them. I very, very slowly switched the rifle around for a right hand shot (I'm a lefty), and shot a nice doe through the lungs with my iron sighted Marlin .41 mag lever gun.

That’s a big ask! I have become 85% ambidextrous as a wood worker to spread the wear and tear out as equally as possible, but it always feels like having a physical disability when shooting. I know it’s just a matter of practice, but I’m jealous of anyone that shoots good off both shoulders!

Doing some dry fires each day will eliminate the bulk of this problem, but if you just practice a few rounds each range session, you shouldn’t have any issues.

Literally half my rifle deer have been shot left handed and many of them were close/fast encounters that would have been blown if I had to turn my whole body.

That said, I am lucky to have a high natural level of ambidextrousness and while I am right eye dominant I can switch without issue. I can shoot rifles and pistols with both hands nearly identically well. I play ping pong, pool, frisbee and eat with both hands. Used to be able to write with both hands when in grade school before everything started being typed. Ironically, I am dominant left handed when it comes to writing but very dominant right handed for overhead throwing (baseball, football, etc) and can’t really throw left handed except for under shoulder motions like frisbee, bags, or bowling.

This is tough. I have low natural ambidextrrity and have a hard time with some fine motor skills lefty. Ive had to learn to shoot a rifle lefty a bit for some PRS stages where its required, it’s not something I particularly enjoy. Certainly no downside to it though!

Always enjoy a challenge and I practice off hand occasionally. 2 years ago, I snap shot a coyote left-handed while turkey hunting. No way I could have turned my whole body without spooking him as he was stalking in to my calls, just over my right shoulder.

When I was in Argentina dove hunting, several years ago, my friend and I started shooting doves with our off hands just for an additional fun on the last day. We actually did better than expected when we had plenty of time to track them and no pressure.

Try it with a 22 the first time. Mine was with a 12g slug gun, took my hat off and broke my glasses. Got the deer and didn’t fall out of the stand, somehow.

This is a good skill to have with a rifle or shotgun while turkey hunting with an optic. I shoot left-handed, but have killed a few deer and turkey right-handed over the years because as the OP rightly pointed out it's easier to make a timed, short move with your firearm than move your whole body.

One of the challenges is adjusting your visual focus. Helps to have both eyes open and have some sort of feel and control for adjusting your eye muscles to clear up your sight picture.

All this can be practices, and +2 on taking some dry fire rounds, even if it's while you're sitting there bored in the stand.
