Lead in Meat Discussion

I switched to all copper this season.
Partly because I’m pretty certain N.Y. is going to make it mandatory in the coming years, and because I have young grandchildren that may eat some of what I get.
I shot a buck this season with a high shoulder shot, DRT.
I did lose some shoulder meat.
I was pleasantly surprised by the how little bloodshot and bruising there was around the wound.
With a shot like this using the accubonds I had been previously using I would have lost A LOT MORE meat around the entrance and exit wounds.
It has sealed the deal with me.
I don’t like being told what I can hunt with, and i want everyone to be able to use what works for them without unnecessary restrictions for reason that most likely are BS, but I like the results I’ve gotten, and for my personal reasons I’m sticking with copper.

I'm going to jump in here, for one reason. The term/word "ignorant" is not a deragatory term. It actually means "not having prior knowledge". Similar to me teaching my kid how a small engine works, prior to her being taught, she was ignorant of how they work.
Somewhere along the line it seems the definition has changed to an insult. It is not in it's original, and only context.

I’ve mostly made the switch to shooting Hammers in my rifle and Lehigh controlled chaos in my boys’ rifles( because they are available in factory ammo). Expensive but completely worth it to me. In my small sample size they out perform other ammo. I don’t have to worry about blowing up a shoulder or vaporized lead residue in my meat. And no worries that other critters will ingest any of it, as remote a possibility as that may be. I don't really plan on shooting beyond about 450yards so velocity trumps bc there. And accuracy has been superb and less finicky. I am not in favor of banning lead in ammo nor do I think everyone should switch. You Do You is an important feature of a free people and endless legislation is having a really detrimental effect on our national culture. Options are good.

Unlike a lot of data parroting folks on here I actually have a professional license and work in the contamination industry. And shoot lead bullets.

You have folks with agendas. You gotta realize that. They keep saying the ocean is rising and FL was supposed to be under water in 2000. Wrong for 25 years and still keeping on. But there is one born every minute do the keep on keeping on.

Same as the Kalifornia lead poison people.

I dont care what you shoot. Im not processing your animals. If you want to eat bloodshot meat and have bullets in your grind, that’s on you.

Trying to pass fear is bullshit.

I have zero fear of any trace amounts of lead contamination. The real problem comes if someone where to swallow a jagged piece of shrapnel

Yeah this was my concern as well. I didn’t love finding chunks of lead several inches outside of the bloodshot on the far side shoulder. I’m familiar enough with lead poisoning to know it wouldn’t be an issue to a human, but sharp metal is a problem no matter what it’s made of.

Granted, a copper bullet could easily have shed a petal and caused the same issue.

I've avoided hitting shoulders my entire life. Never had a visible lead fragment in my meat.

Shot in birds has always concerned me more.
