Last minute suppressor vote

I just wanted to jump in here and remind everyone that emailing your representative takes only a few minutes and your house representative theoretically will be much more likely to hear your message compared to a your representative in the Senate.

Sadly I still don't see them becoming unlisted, maybe the tax gone. But I doubt the goverment truly would give up that control/knowledge of what people buy when it comes to 2A stuff. I'm actually surprised the tax might go away.

Again, respectfully, cynicism is not helpful. If enough people keep Congressional phones ringing off the hook, they'll practically pay people to stop calling.

It's also important for everyone to remember that "the government" is not a monolith. While the Executive Branch establishment/deep state broadly speaking would, yes, love to keep them NFA (and ban everything eventually), enough individual Members and Senators can be pulled toward removing them from NFA. It can be done.

But the only thing you personally can control on the issue, is to call your House rep and your 2 Senators. Not doing that is like complaining about who the president is when you didn't even vote. Calling Congress helps - drop by drop, the rain turns into a flood.

The NFA crap is annoying but the process at current speeds isn't horrible. The tax stamp was a kick in the balls though esp. with low cost suppressors (IE 22lr and such). If they get rid of the stamp I'll probably fire off some orders for a 22lr can and a lower priced steel can that have had appeal but I was just feeling too cheap to pay for stamps on versus their cost.

I agree with the desire for full NFA removal but I do think its a temporary win to have no tax stamp at least.

I went over the Reconciliation Bill markups from the House Ways and Means Committee yesterday. There were easily over 100 hundred items they voted for. Most were voted down 26 to 19. A few were voted up 26-19. The Bill has moved to the Budget Committee. Once the Budget Committee does their thing, will go to the floor of the House for a vote. This bill will most likely be argued on the floor for days. This Reconciliation Bill is literally a ”green headed monster”. Will just have to watch to see when Johnson calls the vote. I agree that a phone call is better than an email in this instance. We need to rattle their cages because time is of the essence. It is you that can make the difference.

They are NOT giving up a funding source. We have a better chance with the tax increasing to $1000 but no NFA. This would eliminate many buyers. The NFA would then be similar to a regular purchase of a firearm with an ability only to resell through an FFL. Solves our problem with the time it takes and keeps them happy so they can track everything. The tax is just a control measure.

I would even suspect there will be a tax on all firearm transactions in the future as that will fund the verification system.

There is already a tax on all firearm purchases through Pittman-Robertson. The money goes to fund shooting ranges, boat ramps etc.

Im not ok with either the tax or the nfa. Both are bullpucky on multiple levels. I may not GET what I think is right, but Im sure as $&!? not asking for less. All of my legislators have been contacted, fwiw.

Man I’ve been public bashing my 2 reps for a week or 2 when they voted against protecting public land from sale offs to reduce the deficit lol it’s all a ploy to sell to the States so they can sell to land developers and then get nice jobs at said companies when there terms are done imo…. I still called and let someone hear me on this issue, if you’re in a republican ran state that had congressional votes to screw over public land users/voters they might be more open to voting correct this time and those that don’t let’s chase em out of office. It’s super hard for these grifters to get away with this bs in our new information access age.

Passing in a scalpel-slim 215-214 vote, the U.S. House of Representatives this morning voted to pass H.R. 1, better known as President Trump’s “One, Big, Beautiful Bill,” sending it on to the Senate. Included in the final House version of the bill is Section 2 of the Hearing Protection Act, which would remove suppressors entirely from the National Firearms Act of 1934.

If it goes all the way through we not get to watch how the anti-gun legislators in CO address the issue (or don't) that possession (not just purchase) of a suppressor in the state requires a tax stamp currently. Its a felony to be in possession of a suppressor in the state without proof the ATF approved you to have one (ie the tax stamp is the proof), that would presumably apply to non-residents hunting here too.

Easily solvable if there was good will from the legislators but they haven't been operating in good faith here for numerous years.

Don't forget your weapons have to be in a locked hard case in your locked vehicle here now too if left unattended.
