Largest Private Western Land Owners Controlling Huge Amounts Of Public Land

There have been wealthy, greedy people and corrupt law makers and politicians throughout our nations history, and thats how you get these landlocked public parcels. It was by design and intent, not an accident. Read about how the railroad magnates tied up 2x's as much land as they bought by purchasing "blocks" of land in between public lands all along their railroads.......locking up and controlling millions of acres of the public lands.....then you get to see how all this shit was done long ago. Don't make it right now, does it? Eminent Domain is the solution to the problem.

Trying to solve a problem about landownership, when the parcels were decided on 150 years ago. A- Blame the current landowners? B- Blame the elected government in power then? C- Blame the elected government in power now? D- Argue with others like yourself getting the shaft by A,B, and C? Definitely D!

Stan Kroeneke who has over 100,000 of public land land locked on his WY Q Creek ranch tried to pull it over on the people of Wyoming. He proposed a land swap. But instead of being fair and honorable (again this guy has 12-20 billion) his proposal was to swap his least desirable arid sagebrush scrub land for prime irrigated/ water rights property. You can’t trust these greedy billionaires.

It is a capitalistic society that we live in! He’s playing fair and square! If he is paying for grazing rights and/or outfitter permit on this land, he doesn’t owe Joe public anything! Just because the govt allowed this to happen doesn’t make him a villain. Unless he begins to feel mighty charitable, nothing is going to change! You might as well curse the sun and moon!

He does not need to feel charitable to make changes, only that the govt get enough support/cause to utilize eminent domain to place a ROW to allow public access to public land. The govt uses this procedure every day in America. They do it fair and square too...they pay the going and reasonable rate for every acre they need. If they decide on it, there is not a thing you can do to stop it regardless of how wealthy you are.

Nobody is going to lose their property via eminent domain so some dudes can go shoot a Deer.

My neighbor has a swimming pool, since the state controls water ownership and use, i should be allowed to have access across my neighbors yard to access the landlocked water. Its not right that these rich land owners are allowed to control who uses their landlocked pool

Eminent domain is a bullshit scam. They can and do use it all the time but I would guess 90% or more of the time the reason is total BS. I lost land to a water district because they wanted to widen the drainage running thru my property. You know what the STATED reason in the lawsuit was...it would drain the farmland downstream from me 3 days quicker than average in heavy rainfall events. It benefited 3 land owners. Yes I got paid but I did not want to sell. My part was small. The farmer who owned the land around me (who would "benefit" from it) didn't want it but was also sued and forced to sell.

We have a rental house that sits on acreage. Said acreage borders timber ground that allows public walk-in only access. Our home is also on the property. Per the lease agreement, tenants aren’t allowed to hunt our private , or access the timber company through our property. We have lots of people walk when they read the lease. Oh well.

Not sure about the not profitable part right now. There’s a lot of new Denali pickups with bale beds running around MT lately with bred heifers going for $4k+
Oh no doubt the last 18 month are the best cattle prices have been in generations (proportionately with inflation, value of a dollar etc.). I had an amazing year. But that's 1 year of awesome lots of years of ok and quite a few years of horrible. Also on the "New Truck" thing. Good ol uncle sam has a new program where if you get rid of/ destroy older diesel equipment you can replace it with brand new "environmental" versions for as low as 10 cents on the dollar in some situations. So basically I traded some hunk of shit tractors and trucks in that I had to work on all the time for brand new equipment all for the price of 1 new tractor....

That's a big fat NO from me. And I assume you are unaware of this s it is hard to see from an apartment in town on the East coast but.. Grazing permits come with rules, fines and regulations. As far as overgrazing obviously you have never made a living from ranching or farming. Hint: if you overgraze something that means less to graze later and that means less animal units (you can good animal units) next time. That means less money in an industry that already is not profitable. You keep saying "our lands" well that does not just pertain to you as a hunter/ hiker or whatever. The ranchers pay the EXACT amount in taxes to "own" public land as you do and the little ol lady in New York that will never set foot on NFS/BLM... So, if you don't like grazing leases going to ranchers you have the freedom to purchase grazing leases and NOT put stock on them.

You seem more upset that "rich land barons" are rich and have land than you are anything. If you don't like people buying land to shore up their borders, then buy it first. No one is stopping you from spending your money to make a difference. But instead, you want to come on here (again) and whine and "start a movement." (which is failing, again). Go buy some grazing permits or land that locks up public and open it up to every

Is it time for memes yet?

Let’s make a list of all the Largest western states land owners who are also controlling vast amounts of our public lands. Mainly interested in the landowners who are tying up our public lands for their own personal gains and private hunting for their families, business associates, and friends. Let’s compile a list of total acres , private acres , public acres controlled . Also comment if these land barons allow the public on their public controlled lands. Name the landowners and the family they are associated with and other known land holdings they have in all western states. Many of these landowners and families are some of the greediest , self absorbed people in the USA.
I will start out with one ranch I am familiar with that has over 20% of its land that is public.
I think a movement needs to be started to free up these public lands for hunting, and not just cow elk.

1) Stan Kroenke - Married into the Wal~Mart family
Q Creek Ranch Wyoming - total acreage 550,000 acres
Over 100,000 acres of this ranch is public land and does not allow public hunting or access

I am all for private land ownership and allowing land owners do as they please with their private land without any government or public interference . I am a capitalist. I have been fortunate in my career where now in my later years most of my hunting is on private land.

I am open to creating a movement to open these large landlocked tracts to hunting . There are many ways this can be done. The ranchers have a free ride with the public owned wildlife. These land barons can put programs together with the state wildlife agencies to have prime time controlled big game hunts. It’s already being done to a degree in UT and CO. Too many ranchers feel entitled and think this land locked public land is now their own private hunting estates. Many of us have issues with the private control of these game rich large land locked public parcels where the controlling owners monetize the wildlife , much like in Europe. Those that say these owners have worked so hard to obtain these lands. Again a lot of that is B.S. too! Many of these land barons are 2nd and 3rd generation trust babies who have inherited all of their wealth either from marriage, or bydaddy or grandpa and have never really contributed to society

On the other spectrum there are a bunch of ranchers just raping our public lands by overgrazing. How many of you have experienced a mountain full of sheep , just like a mile long long swarm of maggots eating everything in sight like a swarm of locusts everywhere on the mountain during one of your elk, mule deer or sheep hunts ? Or hundreds of cattle where there should only be twenty?
All of these land barons are not the best stewards of our public lands.

Many of our countries finest game rich hunting lands are also public lands, but are located within the confines of these land barons . It’s not about unlimited access , or building roads into our landlocked public lands but an equitable amount percentage wise to publicly hunt our own land through programs through state game agencies. It’s currently being done on a smaller scale now.
You preach Capitalism until it inconveniences you, then suddenly you want socialism at my fence line.

I am OK with private landowners restricting hunting on western states like Montana, Wyoming and Idaho.

What is selfish is resident hunters who want to severely restrict and then overcharge out of state hunting even on the federal land they own every bit as much as instate hunters.

By selectively limiting and then overcharging non residents, the overall political position on this is weekend to the point the large landowners will prevail. More power to them.
Maybe the could allow hunting on that land but charge 30k for the right to hunt a particular animal. Sounds reasonable

I posted a link to this before but I doubt many looked into it. It’s not necessary to use eminent domain to allow access to landlocked public or private lands…

This program provides access to sportsmen and compensation to the private landowners who participate. Pretty simple solution really and mutually beneficial. I know a ranching family that owns about 10k acres here in Idaho and they said this program has been working great.
