I thought they were put together very well. The exterior pole design is the best feature going and that goes for any tent when the fly sits underneath the polls. Setting it up and inclement weather keeps inside the tent dry. Aside from the pole design the tent is pretty much like every other tent. A few different fabrics, but overall I thought it was pretty good. I thought the bathtub floor was deep enough to keep the elements off you also.

What other companies make a tent in this weight range and style? Apple to Apple, not sort of similar.

Big Sky Revolution is the closest I can find. Looks very similar, poles cross over though and it is asymmetrical.
From what I've read big sky can be hit and miss CS wise and have a longer lead time. You can also customize the spec of the tent you order.

Hmmmmm.

According to their website its a tad lighter and bigger than the Kuiu as well.

Might have to do some pondering on this now.

Well spent 8 wet nights in my mountain star 2p and am thoroughly happy with my purchase. It was 100% humidity all week with fog that would lift for about 2 hours a day. The only fault I found was that when the top vents are open the little stays push the outer onto the inner mesh causing 2 points where the condensation could drip. I think the conditions for condensation were as bad as they can get and although I'd prefer no drips it didn't cause me or my down bag any trouble.
Loved the space and vesibule's and love external pole pitch as one.

Overall, so far it's a good thing!

Hey Mate,

Any chance you could post a pic of the tent when packed up with something for scale? Keen to see how small it packs down too.

Cheers,

Thanks Mate - appreciate that. Don't see a lot of Mountain House around here!

Yep, you are correct, the Elixir is more of an apples to apples comparison, and yes the kuiu is a ton lighter. Nothing wrong with improving a good thing...

I guess well have to wait until this time next year to get some good reviews from the kuiu tent.
You might be able order cusom carbon fiber poles for the elixer. cuts pole weight in half..

Typical - just when you want to pull the trigger on one...

If you can wait until after this hunting season and see some reviews I would. I'm a Kuiu clothing fan but I've been reading mixed reviews on their tent on other forums. Seems guys are having issues with the poles splitting and with the pole sleeves tearing. I think it's to early to tell if it's a serious design flaw or not but at the price it might not hurt to wait and see.

If you are looking for a single person tent and can wait, Hilleberg just released a 2 LB 7 ounce single person tent. If you are a fan of the atko, this is the same tent basically but much lighter. Hilleberg's designs and quality are 2nd to none.

I just used their tent in the worst weather I have ever been in and it was rock solid.

Be careful what people may be saying. There are no pole sleeves on their tents to tear, none, so someone just talking to talk.

Dang did you change up every piece of gear you have to Kuiu this year? How is their sleeping bag?

Nope, but I got a few pieces. I haven't personally been in their bags as the spec numbers appear small. But talking with Jason and Shaun who are both bigger than I am assure me there is plenty of room. I will try one out next time I am down at the store.

When I am done unpacking I will try and load a video of the tent standing up to Mother Nature, the tent was super solid. It was sitting next to a BA Copper Spur 2p, which has a larger profile, but the Copper Spur was folding in on itself.

What size is your tent?

I initially borrowed the 2p for a trip and thought the total footprint was to big for my needs. It had dual vestibules and entrances which made it wide for my liking.

In Nevada I ran the 1p and it was just about the right size for my needs.
