For those that don't know there is an incredibly dangerous fire burning out of control on the Kenai peninsula. The fire has take a turn towards a lot of residences. Having lived on the Kenai for a long time I feel ill for my fellow Alaskans. If you are of the praying kind please keep those folks in your prayers!!

I'm in Anchorage and had ash on my truck this morning. I lived in Soldotna for a couple of years and still have good friends there. There's been a lack of fires on the Kenai for a lot of years resulting in a LOT of fuel for this fire. Just hope they can keep it beat back from all the houses and cabins. Desperately need some rain!

Yeah we have some huge fires here. This one grew pretty damn fast. Like AkShane mentioned the Kenai has lots of fuel. It's well over 100000 acres right now and growing

Yeah he said he might be there awhile. Talking to him tonight he said they are being told its at 190,000 acres.

My buddy near Anchorage said that smoke from the fires up there has kept planes grounded since Friday. Hope everyone stays safe.

Not in anchorage. There are plans all over here. There is only one NOTAM and that is for Soldotna in the fire area.

As of last night (Monday night) it had burned 176,000 acres, and only 30% contained. The rain just started falling and it's supposed to continue for the next several days so hopefully they can get the upper hand on this.

Really bad situation down there, we have some close friends on stand by with valuables packed in case they are forced to evacuate. Glad to hear of folks from outside coming to help fight the fire, I am sure the local crews down there are just exhausted by now.

We spent the last 5 days camping/fishing/black bear hunting in Prince William Sound, and the smoke was so thick Sunday night that it was almost dark by 8:30pm (for reference, it was light until 11:30 pm on Saturday night). Driving back to Wasilla yesterday we had smoke and thick haze all the way home. Looks like we had light rain last night, hoping and praying for more until this fire slows down.
