Every legislative session we see several deer related bills get proposed and this session it has started early. Recently the Kansas House Committee on Ag and Natural Resources submitted Bill No. 2079. This bill addresses KS deer hunting. 1) It will provide KS lifetime license holders 1 free any whitetail permit with the option of buying a second any whitetail permit. 2) All other KS residents hunting license holders will get 1 free antlerless permit. 3) It moves the KS firearms season up 1 week to start on the Weds. before Thanksgiving.

This is still in committee and has a long ways to go before it will becomes law. As a KS resident, this is very concerning and should be followed closely.

I received an email alert on this from the Kansas Bowhunters Association and emailed everyone on the committee list for this bill. I have received numerous responses back in opposition, but received one who stated his concern was with deaths and injuries from vehicle/deer accidents (Webster Roth). He wants to increase buck tags to reduce vehicle accidents. I told him that this doesn't make much sense. I smell a fish and I think that he must have something to personal to gain from this bill.

In my email I said that you wouldn't go to a tire shop to get your teeth worked on so why is Kansas allowing legislators who have no knowledge of natural resources to create regulations when we have the KDWPT. Doesn't make sense.

I also said that it doesn't make sense to write blanket regulations for the entire state. Deer populations, human populations, topography, climate, crops etc. all differ greatly from the eastern part of the state to the western. Regulations and tag allotments should be configured uniquely for each unit.

Please take the time to email the legislators on the committee. I have copied and pasted the KBA email below.

With the Kansas Legislature in session KBA members should actively monitor bills as they are proposed. Currently HB2079 (see attached) should be followed and be prepared to share your comments. The Bill as currently written establishes a statutory white-tailed deer "firearm" hunting season (start Wednesday before Thanksgiving) but a new draft will establish this statutory white-tailed deer firearm hunting season to start on Tuesday (instead of Wednesday) before Thanksgiving and requires the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks to provide resident hunting license holders certain permits "free of charge".........as well as 2 buck permits.

See the full wording of the bill on the legislative website. As of January 18 the Bill was referred to the Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources Budget. You may also check the status of the bill on the website: http://www.kslegislature.org/li/b20...50hxm_A_Av5UTHui-3AJrf3mw4aeyExWY0xkuK4Re5ssk or call the legislative hotline 1-800-432-3924.

We strongly urge you to contact each and every state representative that has been involved with this bill. The names and contact info. of each are provided below:

This would F over Kansas deer hunting for sure. Every year it slips more and more….this would nail the coffin
100 percent agree. I'm a life time holder and still go back and hunt every year. I'm my years I've seen a drastic decrease in quality bucks. Due to the ease of tags and non residents access. Plus outfitters have taken over liking every 120" whitetail.
