Is Creatine worth the weight gain?

Sorry if it’s already been mentioned, but recent studies show creatine has big results for bone density increase, especially for people over 50. Definitely a good thing for heavy pack, backcountry, rough ground hunting.

Its miracle powder as far as im concerned. 10g a day in 2 doses. I sleep much better on it than off, and I think the mental benefits largely stem from that. Holy crap I need to drink a lot of water though. Creatine + all day offshore fishing trips = gallon of water minimum, which results in lots of pissing.

Totally worth it.

Took me a good while to arrive at this daily practice, but I have an electrolyte drink every morning in addition to creatine. I consume 10g creatine pretty early, usually around 5 am, but I occasionally take 15-20g if I'm anticipating a day where cognitive performance is going to be critical. Shortly after that, I consume an electrolyte drink (been totally hooked on the hot electrolyte drinks, specifically the chocolate salt from LMNT). I've observed that my hydration retention after that is quite good and I'm not pissing all morning after drinking excessive amounts of water.

Doing this, I effectively start the day with 32 oz of water, 16 when I first wake up and another 16 for my creatine. There is also a big, fat cup of coffee in the middle here that I'm not counting. And then that's followed by 12 oz of an electrolyte hot drink which is sipped slowly. With that combination, I feel super hydrated and dialed in whether its a super active day or a day at the office. I don't ever feel like I'm playing catch up nor am I having to go to the bathroom all morning.

Assuming your body responds to creatine, which some people's bodies do not, it can be worth it just for the cognitive benefits, though you likely do have to take more than 5g a day to get those benefits. Drink a glass of water with 10-20g of creatine in the morning and your mental clarity and focus will be dialed in. I do 10g most days, but if I have a task that requires extra focus or I didn't sleep well, I'll take 15-20g.

Weight gain wise, you're looking at maybe 3-5 lbs of water weight.
What type are you taking? On empty stomach?

10 or so grams of naked creatine unflavored pre workout with generally a little cutie orange, banana, 1/2 cup of coffee. Post workout, scoop of isopure whey isolate. Not much til lunch after that except for more coffee and water, generally an egg and some almonds around 10 am. Lunch is usually oats and fruit, some tuna or chicken for a snack later and some derivation of wild game is generally the main event for dinner…

I’m taking monhydrate. I usually drink it immediately after breakfast, but I’ll sometimes take it on an empty stomach if I’m getting up earlier than 4 am. It doesn’t cause me any issues to do that and the effects are noticeable within 20 minutes or so.

Creatine monohydrate is super beneficial. Great for muscles, great for bones and studies show it’s great for the brain. Some people state that they get an upset stomach maybe some bloating initially but personally I’ve have neither. Maybe a little weight gain but nothing to be concerned about. The weight gain (if anything truly noticeable) piggy backs a strength and endurance gain. 10g a day.
