Seems they want to be in it as much as possible now. I’ll admit I was wrong about when they passed the bill legalizing lighted nocks. Seemed great at the time and I really thought they’d only use legalization on small no brainer things like that but it’s definitely gotten much worse.
They have definitely gotten bold and taken their liberties with IFG. It probably won't get any better. Gov Little (not a huge fan) is probably the only thing keeping these new legislators at bay. If a new Governor is elected out of that bunch that is running the Idaho GOP right now, look out.

I only predict one thing with this, the NR will not be happy with the results. And it is a worry about our future.

They want to be in it now because they see how much money they can make; politicians line their pockets with OUR money not only at the corrupt national level but at the corrupt state and local level as well. Leeches, almost every one of them.

+1. Does the current system suck? Yup. Should the legislature be involved in being granted the authorization to conduct a draw? (Or any other wildlife management decision) NO!

Draw system should originate in G&F. If G&F currently does not have authority, have legislature grant it to them.

I can GUARANTEE the language in this bill was deliberately written vaguely and wide open. (IE The legislature will figure out the "details" later) If this happens, you can bet the bank every special interest group will be lobbying legislators for carve outs. (Fill in the blank) What seems straight forward initially will be mucked up in conference committee and what eventually passes will only have glimpses of original language.

Once reconciled in conference committee and signed by gov, we read the details, and people will be standing around and wondering "What just happened?"

+12 on NO POINTS. (Preference or Bonus) Straight random draw.
I stand by my original thoughts. The legislature will take a simple recipe and overcomplicate it to appease special interest groups and the carveouts they desire.

But not the top tags…
These are OTC hunts. Sure there’s better units but none are THAT much better than the rest. I can hunt any OTC unit in the state and I gladly hunt whatever unit they can get. I would gladly have any of the tags we get each year over not being able to hunt at all. That being said the units they’ve gotten have all been in my 5 favorite. And we’ve gotten them online every year except this year. They drove to Idaho and got in line this year. I was online watching though and some of the tags I like were still available when we got to my turn for deer and elk.

all good. I get diamond creek and settle for only a few options that are sold out in 8-15 minutes.
successful getting last 2 years.

I agree the “proccess” is horrible as is.
locals buying lots of tags or even one for a nonres nonfamily is a scam on 90+ percent of everybody.

Got my tag that way this year and would be happy to see it change but will use every legal advantage till then.

The system works fine for those smart enough to actually read the rules and put some effort in. The legislature needs to stay the hell out of it! My NR friends have never failed to get a tag they wanted because we are smart enough to understand the regs and actually try.

A lot of the so called “top tags” aren’t even better than the unpopular tags. Look at sawtooth elk for example. Terrible winter range makes for very very few elk with large antlers and the units are under objective, yet folks think it’s one of the best tags in the state. I hunt it and it’s fine but not necessarily better than many other hunts in the central part of the state

Diamond Creek goes fast for sure. The outfit I guide for part time guides there so we don’t try to get that tag anyways.
the main outfit that guides there buys a PILE of tags on sale day Then sells the outfitter set aside they get for nothing. they have offered to sell me an outfitter tag for cost of a drop camp bit with no services. that is messed up.

There’s 2 outfits permitted to guide DC. That’s definitely not us. Depending on the year that could be the guy we bought it from.

So if it’s just like the controlled draws, then you get one maybe two points? I pray it’s not another bonus point system.
If the complaint really is just a crashing website….. then don’t allow NR to return tags and for crying out loud move your tag sale to the same damn year in which the tag is valid for.

IMO the December sale is a lottery. You either get a good number or don’t.

As a nonresident who gets tags there every year I would like to see it go to a random draw with no points with a draw similar to NV. Let us put our 5 choices and move down the line, going through each persons choices before moving on to the next person.

If they implement points I’ll be out.

The current system is so easy to fix it’s comical that they can’t get it right.

SIMPLY MAKE PEOPLE LOG IN FIRST AND THEN ENTER THE WAITING ROOM!!!

Eliminate thousands and potentially 10s of thousands of extra computers entering the system. Soooo many people are getting on with multiple computers hoping to draw a low number in line on just one of them.

Things I don’t like with the current system.

1. Not fair for many that have to work and can’t be in front of a computer or on their phone at that time. Does not effect me but I still think it’s BS.

2. People are able to cheat too many ways including by having someone else buy the tag for them in person and bypass the line.

3. Nearly impossible to plan for with a party.

I think the consequence is lower overall draw odds. I was pointing to not the fact that in a completely random draw 1 person could draw every single year for 15 years and 1 could never draw in those 15 years. Just completely luck based. I think giving a single point to apps that didn’t get a tag the year before would eliminate the likelihood of that. I would hate a true preference point system because I don’t want point creep and to wait 20 years to draw though.

Are you thinking like a Montana system? Their system is similar Other than they do 3 points. If you do one point cap, at some point there could be (high likelihood) more people with one point than general tags available, everyone with one point won’t draw, so then you have to either increase the point cap or just realize that once you have 1 point your odds won’t be 100%. Right? Or am I missing something.
