Funny thing is this was the first year I was going to actually buy a second tag. Always thought about it, but never ran out of meat before the next season started. Now 1 elk just isn't lasting as long as it did before the kids started growing.
I cannot complain though, I be bummed about not getting a second tag any day, than still live in Washington and be constantly bummed about not getting drawn and trying to find a spike year after year.

The only complaint I could see anyone having against NR hunters in Idaho would be that they are not capped in most areas so you do see a lot of them concentrated in the more well known areas. But they paid their dues just like residents have so who the hell cares? Hunt some place else if it's overcrowded.

My biggest gripe with IDFG isn't NR at all, but rather the INSANE amount of landowner tags, extra tags, depredation tags ON TOP OF the damages that get paid out to landowners. All these GD landowners bitch and moan about damages but most refuse to allow access to hunt but they sure cash in on the payouts. I think if there's any bitching to be done, that's where it should go, not the NR hunters that took "your spot."

New to this forum but not new to hunting. I understand Adam634’s frustration. Yet I am an out of stater to 70 percent of the places I apply to hunt. I don’t feel i am a part of any of the problems you claim come from out of state hunters. We all pay a lot of money to hunt, tags are just a small part of the process and I don’t think it will stop anyone from coming to the great state of Idaho. Tags are going to continue to sell out faster and faster. It’ll be like buying toilet paper during the corona virus pandemic. Gettem before they’re gone. Panic buying at its finest

The landowner deal and their sweet set up provided by Idaho code is really frustrating. Money in, don’t allow any access, shoot big critters with lo tags.

Biggest problem is: if there are less people with two tags, there will be more people with one tag. More people to trip on in the mountains.

I'm not concerned about the dorks with two deer and two elk tags that can't even fill one of them. I'm concerned about the legit serious hunters that fill 5 or 6 tags across a few species every single year.

I agree with that as well. I want the freedom to hunt as much as I want. But hope others who are killing 4-5 elk and 2-4 deer every year aren’t killing the hunting world in general.

Funny to think when this virus hit me and my buddies were thinking we could go back to the unit we used to hunt that got over run by guys from WA, MN and Wiso. Some good hunting to be had but damn if that didn't still ruin the experience. Guess we are sticking to the road less traveled..

be sure to let your local legislator know these issues, especially the next time they try to ram some type of landowner welfare down idfg’s throat. The current access/depredation fee was exactly that, legislators told the dept they weren’t getting a fee increase unless they took care of landowners.

Adam maybe just be kind of happy that non-residents are funding a large portion of your game and fish expenses? You do realize if you want to have no non-resident's hunting that money needs to be made up somewhere, right?

He has to see the amusement in bitching about out of state hunters coming into his state so he can't buy a SECOND tag when he drew a UT deer tag and his profile pic is a caribou.

Yep, and I feel it is a slippery slope to be honest. The areas that are out of control, as far as demand for tags is concerned, should be a draw...not a capped zone. I am not a proponent of moving to all draw or a points system but moving to a capped zone is well on its way to being a draw...in my opinion anyways.

Idaho, like many western states, is ruled by the rancher/dairymen/landowners. Take a look at our Governor's background and then Google the current House seat from Midvale and her background and the bills shes passed. We could complain all day long and it would fall on deaf ears. But trust me, I still raise hell when given the opportunity!

Extremely frustrating. I hunted cow elk off one of them a few years back and was unwise to how that entire LO system worked. Once I figured it out and saw the total amount of tags in the regs, I was pretty PO'd. I had an acquaintance bragging about having tags clear into February this year...Just fries my backside...

I'm in favor of eliminating the 2nd tag across the board, deer and elk. We all complain about low animal numbers and winter kill, me included. Skilled, experienced, well equipped hunters with 2 tags is just making matters worse, R and NR respectively.

I honestly think the 2nd tag for deer saves more deer than it kills. I know there are guys out there who do fill 2 tags, but in my opinion they are few and far between compared to the guys who buy two tags and don't fill at least one of them. I know a lot of hunters who buy 2 tags every year and not a single one has ever filled two tags. Most don't even fill 1 every year. A lot of these guys are just big buck hunters who want to hunt an easy to draw limited hunt and their normal general hunt every year. They also know that buying 2 tags saves a 2-point to get a little bigger.

On the other hand I have known several nonresidents who shot a 2-point on the last day of their hunt so they wouldn't be going home to eat tag soup. I think the "hardcore" hunters who buy two tags pass on deer more than the average guy and less deer actually get killed. Of course there is no proof of this, because the numbers aren't tracked. I've always though the fish and game should do a more in depth study of what the harvest is like for people who hold two tags.

If the 2nd tag truly does put more pressure on Idaho's game animals then I would be all for getting rid of it, but from my experience it does the exact opposite and wouldn't be helping the animals at all.
