Idaho Non-Resident Tag Sale

Outfitters and guides were one of the main sticking points last year. They definitely have some ears with the rural legislators. Tweaking how tags are purchased now will affect their business, as would a draw. Until that is figured out, I’d be surprised if anything gets changed.

The president of the outfitters association is on the working group trying to solve the nonresident process. They want more tags allocated to them. Shocked!

I was number 201 online. Took 25 min to my turn and like half the units were sold out including the one I hoped for. If a number that good doesn't get a tag and people think it's a gd system that seems crazy. It would be a great system with just a few changes. But what do I know I'm just a frustrated bummed non res.

I have enough frustrations so I do not participate in this mess and can look at it objectively.

People making money off of something are usually the problem and this is absolutely the case here.

Limit in person to family members or ONE friend. If your group of 4 want to hunt together send 2 guys. Or go along to HELP your friends that do get the tags, it is very rewarding and satisfying being unselfish…

Eliminates the outfitter, he can get new clients from those that do secure tags.

Eliminates the “I’ll get your tag for an extra $XXX” guy.

Online you can only get into the queue with a paid for license and your account. I have to pay for my Idaho hunting license before entering the limited draw…eliminates the bots and multiple devices and windows in line.

This is fascinating to watch from the outside with both friends participating in every way trying to get these otc tags as well as a friend at the department.

Yeah, last year you needed a number under 200 to get DC. Everything was kinda moving super slow online until they started posted sold out units ( which is always delayed). It’s been this way the last couple years and don’t see any changes for next year. I’m bad at math but the odds of drawing 0-200 out of 55k people online can’t be good. It’s not enough to go stand in line anymore, now you have to be friends/family of a vendor or pay a guide/outfitter.

The beginning takes so long because the few that do get what they want, Hold the tag in their carts for 30 minutes texting around to all their friends hoping one of them can get in to get the same tag!!

Once nobody else can get in to get a tag, the original tag cart holder just logs off.

Man up and plan/prepare to go solo or just get out of the damn way.

Yea I want yo go with friends too, but that don’t stop me myself from grabbing a tag! Idaho isn’t much of a group hunt state anymore unless you go get tags in person

I was 101 this year…..crazy as I was in the 30,XXX’s last year…..I thought out of the 400 NR tags for DC - one would be available - it was sold out…..I’m not good at math but not sure how that happened and so quickly. But I am grateful I have an opportunity this year - just a little bummed because I had a false hope of an area I really wanted to go to…..

FWIW, I have heard from a couple guys with horrible numbers that hung in there on their computers and kept refreshing...then bought the tag they wanted.

It seems the guys that put the tag in their cart locked it up for 30 minutes....then when they didn't or couldn't perform- it's released to the pool and other guys picked it up.

I’m wondering how many east coast people panicked bought. 4 phone calls forwarded to me since the sale and one teams message asking to call someone who called. Time for the scare tactics. 🤣

I look forward to reading these threads every year. Although it never changes. Idaho has figured out how to sell out every tag, every year and has no incentive to change at all.
I do miss the second tags at a discount though.
We still get the price lock discount, though.

You were 101 in a virtual room. Who knows what your actually number was when you factor the lines at hundreds of in person licenses sales locations. Bet you had hundreds more in front of you that were in person.

Last year had to go to a somewhat random unit for mule deer due to high number. Had never step foot in it before.

Showed up and killed a nice buck.

Got an even worse number this year..had to pick a new unit and hopeful for the same luck!

Zero issues with Idaho’s system, it’s working just fine for me.
