And I do believe I did say that they were decreased but not drastically. Did I say they cut resident fees by half, no. Your reactions sure seem like you know this is bullshit and your desperately trying to defend it.

Could care less. I can't pay for a 2021 license til next January. No, what is bullshit is you joining the forum with absolutely nothing else to do except complain about Idaho. You trying to get your ten posts so you can play around in the classifieds?

I see the same group of guys from Idaho come out everytime this topic comes up. Heard all this from you guys before. Same tired stuff over and over again.

I read what I want to read and honestly don't care to comment on much. This just happens to mean something to me because all these states are going to kill hunting. I thought Idaho got it and I thought the people of Idaho were real outdoorsmen that cared more about the tradition of hunting then making a dollar. We actually appreciated a state that made it possible for us to come and hunt with family and carry on traditions. I have enjoyed the people I've met in Idaho hunting. Maybe I'm foolish.

I'm kind of tired of all the misinformed coming on here and complaining when they think they know what they don't know.
Yes, the residents complain about the NR overcrowding. So IDFG came up with a plan to cap zones for NR. The thinking was that there maybe a drop in participation and therefore a drop in revenue so they asked for a raise in tag fees to make up for any shortfall. Not to punish NR and chase them away.

Ok. So NR actually buy all the tags that that have been available for years and the resident complain that it crowded. So instead of cutting NR quotas to solve your problem they raise prices because less people may come. That's not meant to drop NR numbers? Have there been more resident hunters in that time? Is that not part of the problem? Even if it's somewhere in the middle, like all things are, the full burden falls to NR's. And what's the next response when the area you like to hunt is still too crowded for your liking? Seems like there's more resident that are in denial of the real scenario then uninformed people commenting.

Non resident from Nevada who hunts Idaho and will continue to do so. The price doesnt matter to me. It isnt that much and it just means I make other choices throughout the year to afford it. No new iphone and I got an elk tag. No new gun, spotting scope, rifle scope, or I can cut out McDonalds which I should anyways. I’ll up my side hustle game to, plenty of ways to make it work. Sucks for youth hunters though.

Being from Nevada I chuckle a little at you Idaho folks. I go out with my in laws and sometimes theyre like “this trip sucked only saw 40 elk, 20 deer , 10 turkeys, and 10 ducks a day”. Id never see that in Nevada. Idaho has it good in my eyes and good for them. If hunting becomes the most important thing to me I’ll move there. Until then I’ll pay and enjoy my guaranteed yearly tag in the woods and wait for my resident sheep tag here in Nevada. After the sheep hunt it may be Idaho here I come.

would that not end going to any state as Id is still cheaper than most western states. Want to shoot does I think you can come to as and get 2 for a couple hundred dollars. Really 560 is only 1.53 per day for the year. So I know I waste more than 1.53 a day east on dumb stuff so if I want to go hunting I can find a way.

It isn’t anymore!

For only an elk tag ID is now more expensive then MT and CO once you add in all the fees to legally hold the tag.

Also another thing to note is total cost for NR to get there, for me ID costs more just to get there, so there’s an additional cost to hunt it vs other states. So it just doesn’t appeal to me.

Now it wouldn’t keep me out of ID if I hunted there, I don’t and really don’t see a reason to when both CO and WY are closer and I can hunt MT cheaper. Personally I doubt it reduces the NR hunters by much as youth NR have to be a very small percentage. Maybe there will be fewer college or just out of college NR that will go.

What about the Disabled Vet tags for NR? Maybe you would like us to stop those so yours could be cheaper?

Thank God you have somewhere else to go.

Wow, relax man. I see you get butt hurt easily, hopefully your resident tag price stays low. All I said is ID isn’t the cheapest and I have zero desire to hunt there, so not sure what your response even relates to in my post.

For all I care ID can drop all NR tags or even vet tags, it’s their choice. Hell why not charge $5k for all I care, lol.

I look at the tag cost increase a bit differently. As most of you know, on Aug 1st of each year, residents can by NR tags at the NR price. 3 years ago, F&G even discounted these tags as they were not selling out, many residents (myself included) took advantage of this lower priced NR tag to purchase a second. The next year tags sold out in September (not discounted), the year after that (last year) they sold out in August. Many NR guys were floored that they could not show up in Idaho in Sept and buy their OTC tag.

What I think this increase will actually do is reduce the number of residents buying the second tag on Aug 1st so in reality there will likely be MORE NR hunters in Idaho in the upcoming years. Tags will likely not sell out, but I am guessing overall number of hunters (not tags sold) will go up.

just my $0.02

Residents might need to PM these NR guys info on the zone they hunt to make them feel better.. I'm sure that's the next post for most of them after they are done complaining on this thread.

Probably never draw one but man 2600 for a sheep and moose tag is getting crazy. You are well on your way to paying for a Canada moose hunt at the new prices. This may increase NR moose draw odds. Non res elk prices dont surprise me. Nor do I think they are way out of line. Gotta sacrifice if you want to travel and hunt.

For the guy arguing that R prices are going down: you do realize the prices on the link aren’t what you actually pay. They still have to have the vendor and service fees added, so yes prices for R are staying the same and will go up again soon.

I think the NR prices are fair even with the increase. Idaho is a fall back plan for many and a place to hunt OTC after they find out they didn't draw tags somewhere else. Buy the license and put in for controlled hunts. Use OTC as a last resort.
Elk tags are still cheap compared to most western states.

If you want to hunt here you have to pay. I'm sure there will be no shortage of NR hunters this fall.

I can see it from both sides, however I get the animosity toward Idaho for admitting to upping the prices to reduce pressure. Why not just reduce the number of NR tags? That takes care of the pressure... or even better, on top of reducing tags make it draw only? That way you can charge an application fee - and up the price 50 bucks or so.

Reduced pressure benefits everyone. The state makes more money. Everyone wins. Chances are a NR would still be able to hunt ID every two or three years.
