Idaho Hunting Fees 2021 Non Resident (Big Elk Increase)

18.25 to 80.00 is the odd one. For what purpose? I get the game tags, even the lic fee. That one just seems like a gouge without reason. On a side note, had no idea there were grizzly tags available.

It is showing the NR wolf tag as $184.25 with no change. I am pretty sure the couple I bought last year were only $31.75 each.

Edit: Since the current $31.75 fee for a wolf tag was not shown as struck out (or shown at all), I checked the current code section and $184.25 is what is listed. The Department must have some discretion to offer reduced priced tags to meet management objectives.

2020 will be the last time I take my two young boys to ID hunting. It’s going to cost me $560 more dollars to take them and I can’t justify that so they can go shoot a doe.
They will be loosing a lot more in the long run IMO since my boys most likely won’t continue to go to ID in adult hood. I’m honesty pretty disappointed.
I agree some areas in ID are overcrowded, IMO it would have done a lot more good to reduce total tag number on deer and make them zone specific like the elk tags. Now all the residents will have to find something else to blame there unsuccessful hunts on.
I hope they get the outcome they are looking for, in the long run I think they are really going to hurt hunter recruitment which is a big lose for everyone!!

would that not end going to any state as Id is still cheaper than most western states. Want to shoot does I think you can come to as and get 2 for a couple hundred dollars. Really 560 is only 1.53 per day for the year. So I know I waste more than 1.53 a day east on dumb stuff so if I want to go hunting I can find a way.

I completely disagree with the insane cost of tags these days. Increasing tag costs and license fees is a punitive measure, in my opinion. If game management or resident overcrowding complaints are the issue being addressed, then a better solution is to reduce tags for NR's or manage the game better. Also, how about Increasing predator management efforts if the game numbers are dwindling. You can even let hunters pay for that right, assuming it is a reasonable and non-exclusionary fee (not what is described above). These thoughts represent solutions that are not a punishment to the population paying for the resource, already.

As a community, hunters almost pay a separate income tax in trying to maintain points and or apply for tags these days, and yet, western states only increase the burden on hunters, and somehow fail to allocate taxes that we already pay to offset these absurd costs. I am totally aware of all the obvious arguments and historic whining on this issue, so I don't need any reminders on the topic. We, as a community, really need to push back against these increases and hold our public officials accountable. If we don't, what kid is going to be able to afford to hunt in the future? Or have the opportunity??

Additionally, the whining from residents about non-resident hunters on these forums needs to stop. It is such a tired argument. Provide a solution. Encourage your legislature to limit NR tags, if that is your legitimate concern and or provide a viable solution. The fallback position of "just increase costs" is infuriating, and a complete cop out. Weak policy solutions like that will lead to the demise of our community.

Dont forget your archery endorsement.
So I have never purchased one. Went and researched and found this.

So I hunt pioneer zone, OTC during archery. So I think Elk Tag A. However it is not archery only because I can shoot a cow with a rifle within a mile of an agricultural field, or return in November I beleive with a muzzle loader and shoot a cow.

Do I need the archery permit? I guess I need to call and ask.

I took them and will be taking them to ID because it’s cheap and a hour and a half drive from home. I thought it was great ID encouraged youth to get into hunting by having low NR fees for that, IMO raising the youth costs by several hundred percent is a poor move in hunter recruitment. All those kids that parents take them somewhere like ID because it’s affordable a high percentage will continue to go as adults which leads to more money all around for conservation. Making it too expensive to take them is a mistake IMO, most people don’t take there kids on out of state hunts and pay NR fees.

This year it cost me $575 for tags for me my two boys to go hunt ID to hunt deer. Next year it will be $1063 for the same exact stuff. I was hoping to start taking them there elk hunting as well now that they are getting bigger but that is for sure out of the question. I’ve personally hunted ID for quite a few years and am grateful to be able to do so. I’m sure I could still make it work if I decide to, it just feels like a hard kick in the nuts to be honest.

I deal with the same out of state and out of the area stuff here in Eastern Oregon and to be honest the whining about non-res is just that, you put in the effort and you can still easily be successful. I’m glad ID is listening to there residents but those same people bitching about non-residents are just going to bitch about something else after next year.

Looks like I need the archery permit. Didnt even know I needed it. Could have gotten in trouble without even knowing...Screenshot_20200314-111627_Drive.jpg

No big deal. Its just $80 ;)
Yeah, I guess I'll sleep in my truck instead of getting a hotel one night... lol. I read the justification for it. Seems weak but whatever. I'm just glad I didn't get checked by a warden and then cited. Would have been total ignorance on my part.
