I wish the 300 WSM would get it's relaunch (300 PRC 2?) Every caliber got remade but the 30 cal...

You can shoot 180's at 3,000fps in a 300WSM and 300SAUM in a short action.

You don't need a updated twist rate to shoot 180's.

Realistically, your not going to get any real improvement on those in a short action for a .30cal. It takes powder capacity to move big bullets. The 300 SAUM real world is dang near a creedmoor case, dimensionally very close, but a bit fatter. Your not gonna squeeze anything more out of a short action case....especially a standard bolt face, short action.

This is the same reason why their isn't a 7mm creedmoor. The case capacity just isn't there to push the big bullets.

Hornady actually talked about it in one of their podcasts. 7mm and 30 cal got the PRC case because the short action (creedmoor) case just wasn't gonna bring the goods for the heavy for caliber bullets.

Basically running a 300wsm in a medium/long action, 1/8 twist barrel and 200+ grain projectiles.

To "update it" the ammo manufacturers would probably have to re-do the Sammi spec before the gun manufacturers got on board and they probably couldn't do that simply because some people can't be trusted not to mess up and try to use the up spec version of factory ammo In the "old spec" rifles.
**think 6 arc factory ammo being downloaded to suit AR pressures despite a decent bolt gun market.

Your best bet if youre really keen might be to find a bunch of 300wsm lapua brass- several barrels worth, then do a custom build, get a couple barrels chambered at the same time.
It's a substantial investment for maybe not a lot of gain over something else that has factory ammo support and likely to have tons of components available long term.

**It seems that a lot of people are shying away from heavy hitting 30 cal magnums and maybe the market can't support that
