Don’t really want to drop $400 on a canvas cutter but will if that is the best option... I will use it fairly regularly when staying mobile and hunting from the truck. I have a surplus MSS Gore-Tex bivy laying around. Any problems with getting some memory foam for a pad, throwing a sleeping bag or wool blankets in there, and calling it a day? Or is there a commercial option that is considerably better?

If you don’t want to do inflatables, the thermarest ridgerest is like $20. I’ve used mine quite a bit not the most comfortable on hard ground though.

Davis tents sells a bedroll. I am happy with. Kodiak Canvas makes one and puts it in a swag. The memory foam idea is also a great option.

Do you want it for full weather protection or just to keep bedding clean and together?

Full protection... I want to just roll it out on the ground, climb in, and go to sleep without worrying about a tent, tarp, etc.

Your gortex bivy with pad seems like good option . I use a canvas bedroll to keep my bedding clean. It would probably keep me dry but would be a pain in the ass to dry out.

I have a guide gear -30 bag, flannel liner, blankets, and pillows in a waxed canvas duffle bag. I also cary a Cabela's cot pad. It works well. The sleeping bags aren't very expensive and I can replace them every 5yrs or so. I can go up and down for temps with the blankets. I take naps mid day in the liner on warm hunts. I'm comfortable well into the 20s. I've been into the single digits on a cot with it, but had another bag above and below me. I'm sure it isn't the best, but I've been doing it for 10-12yrs and it works well for me.

I think I'm going to steal that idea!

I bought a tempur pedic cooling queen size topper, cut 1/3 off for a single mattress and save the other for when I need a double...its awesome 👌

I'd look into the OR interstellar bivy if just by the road...mld event if packing

Don't really see the point of having a bulky bed roll such as canvas cutter that is highly "water resistant" ..even at the truck space can be a premium
