I am going to upgrade the stock for my model 70 stainless classic. As far as bottom metal goes, is there any benefit as far as accuracy or functionality of the rifle between the two piece bottom metal and one piece bottom metal? One piece is lighter (aluminum at least), and one piece takes one less action screw…but other than that? I can get a stock for either, so that’s not a problem.
Thanks

I didn’t notice a difference in accuracy switching from 2 piece to 1 piece I only switched because that’s what Stockys inletting was for and I liked the new aluminum one over the old blued steel.

Functionally no difference I can tell from using them. one less screw to deal with. Maybe someone else has a different experience

How’s that stockys? Is it pretty slippery?

I have one for M1500 LA, tikka, and M70

The M70 is much better then the other 2 in terms of grip the grey web actually has texture to it not slick like the other 2.
-much shorter trigger reach 1.7”
-square forend rides nice on bags and pack no roll.

I really like it very easy to get behind and shoot

That’s great info, thanks. Is the forend thick enough to really grip it?

That actually looks pretty decent. Cheek weld is good with that scope height? What rings are you using?

I have a mod 70 circa 2002 or so just sitting in the safe collecting dust. It’s a 300WSM coyote in a grey laminate stock, and I have been debating on what to do with it.

Yeah it could be better Im not a face smasher though, I have some warne 2 piece bases that have a lower profile I may move back to those.
These are medium Burris rings that are actually higher from what I’ve found then most medium rings. I’ll eventually move it a touch lower with a different setup. But my head isn’t floating.

@NWBLKTAIL thank you. That is definitely more robust. What cartridge is that model 70 chambered in? It looks like the stock would be the sporter or sendero barrel channel. Did it require any tweaking to fit it to the barreled action?

@rickyw I had this done in 243win 8tw, its a Mcgowen barrel. It's the Sendero channel I didn't want monkey around with opening it up like I have for the other 2 sporter channels. There was no tweaking with this one it fit tight to the action and functioned.
Although I did have to get new action screw with the 1 piece trigger guard, the original front screw was short.

Very cool. Would you by chance be able to include a photo from the top of the rifle looking down on the stock?

What a timely thread. I ordered a Rokstok in the last run back in February for my Model 70 .308. The rifle was produced around 2002, in the New Haven factory, but does have the two piece bottom metal (with three action screws). I just received a voicemail from Unknown Munitions letting me know that they got a call from Stockys who told them that they only inlet for model 70’s with one piece bottom metal (even though two piece was an option when I ordered). My options are to either cancel my order or convert my rifle from the two piece to the one piece bottom metal. Needless to say, there isn’t much info out there, so I was pleasantly surprised to see this thread. My questions, which @NWBLKTAIL touched on above are:
1) if I convert to a single piece bottom metal with the hinged floor plate and two action screws, do I need to worry about the third action screw hole (would be the hole just in front of the trigger guard) just not being used anymore?
2) would conversion to the new one piece bottom metal be as simple as purchasing a single piece with hinged floor and installing it into the rokstok and to my existing action, or is there detail work I would need to do to make them all fit?
3) are there any recommendations for a blued one piece bottom metal and floor plate?
4) am I missing a better (possibly less expensive) third option?

Thanks so much.

You should be able to buy a one piece bottom metal from stockys or PTG. You’ll just use the front and back screws, no middle screw
