my son will be 9 when next season rolls around and have been looking to build a rifle to start shooting more with him. currently shooting a lot with a rim rife but time to move up. he looks my gredel well but i don't want him hunting with a AR right out of the gate. i have been looking into 6creed,22creed and 6 arc. anyone have any pull one way or the other and why?

I built a 6 ARC with a mini howa and a mdt oryx.
It is awesome, a good shooter, not super expensive, medium weight, and super low recoil. This gun breeds no bad habits. He is 11 and can hit our target at 1135 yards 2 out of 5 times in easy wind conditions.

My son is 10, and I'm afraid to take him hunting yet, and he's afraid to shoot himself.
Sounds like both you and him need to spend alot more time around guns and setting up for shots and actually shooting a bunch. Get a practice rifle he enjoys shooting and it's easy for him to manage wieght and size wise.

Look into the TC Encore. There is a Hobbit rifle thread. This is the platform that I’m currently using for my young kids.

Dont overlook a 243. I built a kids gun for all the kids in my family to use. (Nieces, nephews, grandkids, friends kids, ect) I built it in 243, 12.5” LOP, 16.5” barrel with a brake, detachable mag, and a wood stock to add just a little weight. 2-7x scope. The gun with a mild charge and 70gr bullet has almost zero recoil. The amount of “first deer” this rifle has taken is testament in itself of how easy it is to shoot. The only thing I would change if I was to do it again would be to put a suppressor on instead of a break, but I just never went down that road.IMG_0030.jpeg

I went with a 22 ARC in Ruger American. I've been very happy, my son is 9, and shot his first doe and first buck last year. The LOP is 12" and fits well. I also added some of the factory weights and suppressor and the recoil is nothing. He loves shooting it, and so do his friends. Two friends have a 243 and 6.5CM. You can visibly see them tense and flinch when they shoot their own rifles. In s matter of minutes, they were all hitting a 6" steel at 180 yards with my son's rifle.

6 ARC would be great as well, maybe better. I just wanted to try the 22 and its has more velocity. I'm not a fudd, but I still think a little more velocity has its merits at hunting ranges for less drop. I just ordered some 80gr ELDx for this reason, we've been using 88s.
