So wy requires 1 item of hunter orange. Im trying to figure out the easiest method of accomplishing that. My thought was an orange ball cap and an orange beanie. My first lite gear is all camo, so I will have to get the two items listed. I also have a orange vest I can put over my puffy when I have the hood up because that will hide the orange hat/beanie. I keep thinking there has to be an easier way?? How do yall approach this. I may just bring the vest and keep it as my outer layer at all times, but its a pain.

Depends where I am going, how cold it is and how much I am hiking. In Colorado and Montana, I typically wear an orange hat and vest. When I go to PA I wear an Orange hat and coat.

I have never had a problem wearing orange during rifle season. I don't think it is an issue at all, in fact if I am hunting on public land, I prefer it. I would not want to walk through heavy cover without it. Unfortunately, people shoot at movement and sound. I want to be seen by other hunters during rifle season.

I have a buddy that sometimes pins an orange handkerchief type thing on his pack. Might be an easy option

Vest over clothing. Easy, cheap ($10) and can be seen a LONG ways, which is what I want during rifle season.

I literally just went through this myself lol. I’m hunting Wy as well and already had both hats bought and hate vests. I ended up just buying an orange cap to use in place of my camo one. I guess when I want to wear my beanie I’ll put the cap on top of it lol

I wear the cheapest vest I could find. As mentioned above, it can probably be seen by the Lunar Spacestation. Bought three of them. It weighs nothing and I just wear one as a vest ever whatever clothing I'm wearing. Then I drape a second over the backpack so I can be seen from behind as well. I've toyed with getting the orange Talon for my SO pack but already had the vests so I'm going with that.

You want something visible for 360°. With the average daypack even, this isn't possible with just a vest. A vest and an orange knit stocking cap will fit most bills, or you could try to break out of the box and wear one of these-

In WY I just wore an orange ball hat, I don't have to worry about a hood covering it because I can't stand hoods and most of the clothes I own don't have them or they have been removed. If a ball hat or beanie won't get it done then a neck gator takes care of the issue.

I also carry an orange quiet fabric vest and DIY orange pack cover in my pack at all times. Guy just never knows when he might need to be seen, I have been know to hang my orange stuff around a kill site while butchering the animal just to be a little more visible while I'm working away. Plus during Utah's rifle season orange is required, must be visible from all sides and a hat doesn't cut it.

Boonie hat and vest.
I get sweaty with the vest on in the early season, so I'm going to acid dye a wool shirt blaze orange to wear instead. Also going to dye a wool shemagh to use when it gets cooler.

This is the hat in my profile pic.

It is big enough for my melon (7-5/8). I used a seam ripper to take off the reflective and hi viz green band and brim then used a wide sharpie to darken the underside.

1 orange vest that I wear. 1 orange vest zip tied to my pack. 1 Orange hat/beenie on my dome.

I purchased a blaze orange pack cover with velcro straps to connect to the back side of my pack. Works great and helps with states like Montana that require a percentage of your body to be covered in orange. Will try and find who I bought it from. Cheap but effective.

Pull up your panty’s man. It’s just an orange vest. They make them very light and packable. Just keep it on over your outer layer at all times. It isn’t hard. It isn’t a pain either. Been doing it for 35 years and haven’t broken a nail yet.

Orange Aglow is who I bought mine from. Works great on the pack.

Locally, we have to have 400 square inches of orange, and must wear a hat. That pretty much means a vest at all times, unless you invest in a coat, I don't find it that big of a deal. As for the hat, early season it's a baseball cap. Late season. I have a couple different weights of orange stocking caps which I use, and if its real cold, a couple different balaclavas that I wear under them, ranging from very thin wind breaks to heavy insulated ones.

Colorado requires a hat and vest/jacket, so I have a ball cap, beanie, and mesh vest. Not a big deal aside from the extra step every time you change layers if the weather varies.

Pack off, binos off, vest off, puffy or rain jacket on, vest back on, binos, pack, etc.
