How to get my suppressor to Colorado for an elk hunt?????

I live in Maine, and I’m planning a Colorado Elk hunt. I really want to be able to use my suppressor.
I will be driving. It is impossible to leave New England without going through NY.
NY has a suppressor ban….
Then half way through the trip is Illinois with it’s suppressor ban…. (Or a MAJOR detour around it)
Going through Canada of course is not a viable option either.

Any suggestions?
Hoping maybe some of the PRS guys have a solution worked out for going to and from matches.

Im pretty sure federal law allows you to transport them through a state in which they are illegal as long as they are legal at your destination.

But I could see a cop in MA being very upset about it

What I’ve read so far indicate that I can use the Federal law as a defense in court, but that does not prevent me from getting cuffed, and charged. If that happened, what a disaster… even if I would “win” in court, that would still be a HUGE loss.

Some Post Offices allow packages to be shipped to their address in your name. See if you can find one in CO near your destination and ship it to yourself. Or find someone and ship it to yourself to their address. As long as it's your name on the package and they do not open it (if they did they'd have possession) you'd be good. Maybe if you ask politely some Rokslider will help you out

Do you look like a cracked out radical long haired hippy. If not just put it in a cloths bag and be on your way. One more word of advice, don't put a sign on your vehicle that says, I have a suppressor on board.

Find a local ffl who deals with cans, see if you could ship it to them?

Put it in your trunk, and say nothing about it. If you have a gun in your vehicle, does that mean NY has a legal reason to search? I highly doubt so. Most logical, move to a area that isn't near such dictator states.

You can ship it to yourself. If you are staying at a hotel for one night in Colorado ship it to yourself at the hotel. You have to receive and open the package but it is perfectly legal to ship it to yourself in a state where it is legal.

Edited to add make sure you always have a copy of your tax stamp in your possession either paper or picture on your phone.

You can ship it to yourself if you have a location where you can receive it. You can use an ffl if you would like but it is not legally required.

I’d just drive. I moved across the country and drove my rifles and suppressors through Illinois in the process. Never once crossed my mind.

Admittedly I’m of two minds on this.
It must happen just as you say, many times each day. Perhaps I’m plaguing myself over nothing.
Too many paranoid, conspiracy whack-a-doodles on reddit.
Buuuuuut, if it goes wrong for some reason, the consequences could be catastrophic. So it seems…

Why not change route and avoid Illinois?

Heck, back in my younger days of traveling for work, I packed a AR15 pistol as a CCW. Never gave 2 shits about it.
