How to end NR Wyoming wilderness ban?

Correct NRs just fund the WY wildlife programs....that $57 R elk tag and $43 R cow calf tag sure as hell ain't doing it.

There is an entire Newberg podcast on understanding why Wyoming can do whatever they want. Non-residents are not stakeholders of the states wildlife trust.

The North American model never had anything to do with non-resident hunting. That was not the intent. It has everything to do with protecting wildlife as a trust for residents of that state.

You can't hunt 30% of Nevada because of the military.

You can't hunt 20% of New Mexico because of the military.

As I've said, I completely disagree. Wilderness us federal pubic land. The state has no business regulating activities on non-state lands, plain and simple. However, I do get that residents and guides want to keep it the way it is.

And wildlife is held in trust by the state to the stakeholders (residents of that state). I don't understand why this tenant of US Wildlife regulation is so hard for people to understand.

Do you think that the state should have the authority to regulate hunting on private land? Or would you consider that to be an overreach as well?

The state has the legal right to regulate hunting with seasons, tags, method of take... the state regulating who can hunt what land, short of trespass is simply not legal and nothing short of discrimination.

Can you take your lifted Subaru and off-road in Yellowstone national Park? No.

Can you fish? Camp? yes

Can you hunt other national Parks, yes some!

They aren't regulating federal lands you are free to hike, camp, rock climb whenever you want. The animals belong to the state. There is the rub.

I'm pretty sure there was a similar issue with Kansas in the 90's. They banned out of state hunting until other states around them banned Kansas hunters.

Kansas did not have non-resident hunting when I was a kid. Maybe.

I would think there could be tax ramifications that could be levied against the state for access banning. Force the outfits to make up the difference.....not that it matters those are bottomless pockets.

And the courts have upheld that it’s within their power to do so. All states regulate hunting based on residency.

If the state couldn’t tell me where I can and can’t hunt, even as a resident, then there are some draw areas I’m headed to immediately. Obviously, they can and do make the rules.

Yeah you're right. I was pretty sure they didn't. I used to hunt up there a lot and the locals referred to that as the "good old days".
