How much do you all actually hunt?

Depends on the tags that I draw.

2020 was right at 50 days in the field between scouting and hunting. I spent over 80 days on the water fishing.

The first year I got into it.. weeks before the season.. and getting my ass handed to me by the forest, and not seeing much. I got on forums, asked a lot of questions.. and scouted that whole year... minimum 2 weekends a month, but usually 4 weekends a month. And in 1yr and 13days from beginning this quest... I finally got my first buck in 2015.

The scouting part is not as much now. Not exactly anyway. I predator hunt in all the off time now. if for no other reason that to get more time out there to have eyes on the various locations. And check cams and stuff.

Goals this year will be to take another coyote. And likely begin scouting D14 with the idea of getting my first bear. Since I knocked out Mule Deer first, then Mule Deer w/ Bow, then coyote, then Doves/Quail, then Waterfowl, then Rabbits, then Bobcat before they banned it here. I laughingly tell people I started it all in reverse order. Started Big.. then worked my way backwards!

Tell her if she wants you to stay home, then she has to be willing to do what a wife should be willing to do if they want to keep their man home. And f**king lots of it!

This is the exact reason why I got into hunting. I've got injuries that finally disallowed me from being able to do dirtbikes like before, and MTB.

And then you add in my instance... I've got this crazy sexy wife where the surgery needed to remove a large 8cm fibroid to allow her to no longer have issues with mis-carriages like she did in her previous marriage... in order to become pregnant... ended up f**king things ALL up... making intercourse painful for her. AND... we both I'm sure figured that the act of childbirth would stretch things out and help with her pain issue... but NOPE.. they don't want someone who's had a surgery on their uterus to go thru natural childbirth... so C-section. So problem still remains.

I went from 2-3x day in previous marriage... down to *maybe*... *maybe*... 11-12 x year in this one. And one year entirely where nothing occurred just because of how pissy she got.

Sooo not cool it's not even funny. There is no such thing as spontaneity. I'm a very affectionate person.... but subconsciously this issue has also made her avoidant to affectionate behaviours as well, presumably due to subconcious fears of it progressing towards me wanting to pressure for sex. Ya know, because Duh!

So extreme frustration was the motivator for me to want to kill something to vent. But... you might even say thankfully... I learned that it just ain't that easy. But I'm not a quitter... so oh well.. I got sucked into it.

So I try to get out as much as I can all year round. I figure absence makes the heart grow fonder type of deal.. maybe she'll learn to value all that I do bring to the table. And it has worked to a large degree. And the extreme exertion certainly is beneficial in terms of distracting your mind from the depressing thought of what your reality truly is.

NOTE: only bothering to share my story because I know this type of story happens a LOT more than we all realize so I want others to know you're not alone.

This is why you shouldn’t drink and post on forums.....just joking......sort of.....

2020, unlike my norm, about zilch since late spring. My norm previously has been on the excessive side. But some damn health issues got the better of me. I am just waiting on MRI results to hopefully be in the clear (other than knee replacements). Hopefully, I will be back at it soon.

Brother... I ain't drinking at the moment. And as you can imagine... this issue causes me a great amount of depression/dismay. And it's because she's my little Pacific Islander gorgeous Asian Hottie! But I try my best to just internalize and deal with this shit as best I can because she gave me an incredibly cute and handsome son, and I will always love her for that.

Being able to hunt right out my back door, (in 10 minutes I can walk to the shop, get in my SXS, drive to a box blind and be settled in) I hunt a lot. In a non C-19 year, I usually head to Idaho to hunt for 2 or 3 weeks, hunt in New York for a week and hunt here in Vermont for 3 or 4 weeks. If you added in scouting, planting food plots and enjoying wildlife behind the house, you'd have to add another 3 or 4 weeks of Saturdays and evenings.
Life is good.

Vermont huh? I’m right next door in NH lol.

Gary, you are being exceptionally modest on that estimated number.
Hehe... hey.. I'm a techie man! Attention to detail is what pays the bills!

You have to admit though that my questions were always pointed and specific, well defined... not just wide-open "Please Explain" type of Q's. I hate that isht.

P.S. we need to go out for some predators man! We'd make a great pair right now. You with your issues, me with my lower-back and probably sacro-iliac issues... together we just might make a whole healthy studly individual! Dude... my long standing issue from that trauma injury in '95? The dang thing is continuously bubbling up with bruising coloration where tailbone meets butt crack. When I get back home I'm like hobbled for 3 days.

Trying to wait until after the dust settles from ungodly major expenses of property tax payment, income tax payment... then begin doing appointments to a back specialist. Probably will end up doing steroid injections plus PT at first to buy me some time to try to pay down some things first. Then eventually pretty sure I'll need some kind of discectomy. The MRI showed multiple instances where the discs crowded into the foramin space. The worst one by 5mm. Also they noted "loss of lordosis" lordosis refers to the curvature of your back.

Have a friend who is a body builder that had a similar issue and he's straight now. So figure I'll hit up his Doc so I'm going with a known provider where I know an ex-patient, ya know?

Actual days In the field with weapon in hand: +/- 30
On the jet boat fishing, scouting, hiking, mountain biking, dirt biking, river running, cutting firewood and not working: ??
Skiing: 60 days +. I would rather be balls deep in the cold smoke chasing snow storms than chasing critters.

A LOT! Spring bear in ID, Turkey in WA, Archery antelope in MT, Rifle antelope in WY, deer in WA, and elk in AZ. Ducks and coyotes all winter in WA.

Of coarse I’m not married and don’t care what anyone else thinks about how much I hunt.

Brotha, your questions were sharp, I mean, if they came from someone with reasonable experience, they were sharp. But, you also know that I often answer the question that should have been asked, instead of what is often asked. Well, I used to anyway.

In all seriousness man... especially after dealing with certain other unsavory individuals on another site, who shall remain unnamed, that only ever respond in grunt-like-fashion 2-sentences max... you really made me miss the fact that the other site we met at went belly-up.

This other site I'm talking about... this certain core clique of dudes who were fortunate enough in their situation to have a ton of experience and so forth. Ugh... man. They really irked me because they had this habit of not answering questions posed to them by n00bs in an honest straight-forward fashion. They'd purposefully pull their legs... and not even come back later to let them know they were just messing with them. Not cool. This other n00b person with less experience with yahoos on the internet isn't going to just innately know their being douches, ya know? I wouldn't stand for it and I'd check 'em on it. Occasionally resulting in the admin booting me, I presumed because they were like their golden boys since they had much more hunting opportunity and thus could post up much more pics and content than most others could. No doubt boosting site traffic. That's my theory anyway. And everybody else on their was ridin' their nuts ya know? After the last ridiculous thing they booted me for... when others on the site made a plea for my case...and those admins reached back out to say you're welcome to come back. In my head I'm like mother-f*ck that noise! There's no way I could come back after that and have any respect. And they certainly weren't going to apologize for that last misguided boot they did.

It is what it is. This place is cooler. Doesn't seem to have that good ol' boy clique-ish we-run the-show bullsh*t going on like over there. So "C-ya... wouldn't wanna B-ya!"

Well this got sidetracked...

It would be interesting for someone to average out the numbers given so far.

Due to buding a new home 1100 miles away, planning a move, and prepping/selling my house, I only hunted eleven days this year. Ten were for antelope and mule deer, one for whitetail. I tagged a nice muley, then an good whitetail on that opener, so I can't complain. When I was younger, I would say I averaged 60-70 plus days a year hunting and scouting. As of the last few years, probably 30-ish days. I plan to do more, more hunting and scouting after March 1st when I retire and move to WY.
Fishing? Most of my fishing is fly fishing accompanied with my wife, so I don't count it... but once retired those solo fishing days will surely occur and I hope to spend at least 30-50 days a year fly fishing.

A good friend of mine and mulie nut got me taking notes 🤦🏼‍♂️👍 so I looked up 2020 real quick 😂...... I spent 32 days scouting for archery mulies turned up as well as cataloged 328 bucks in that time. Only 2 shooters or bucks that have the wow factor... One was a once in a lifetime buck for almost any hunter... Hunted archery 9 days for mulies w a friend (I got a buck). Wife scouted w me 10 of those days the she hunted 9 straight for a giant and held to that so she ate her tag..

Elk are easy scouted 6 days w her she killed a 6x on day 2. Scouted and hunted w 77 year old father and my 6 as well as 9 year old girls for elk for 6 days as my dad would rather hunt w my girls and family than shoot lol.

I guess that is right at 50 chasing mulies (not enough IMO) 😂😳. Then another 14 on elk.

Wife loves to go and hunt and supports me when I am out. She goes when ever she can. I take the girls and my father. Just the way you set it up man..
