This answer is posted a half-dozen times in this thread. Do you really think they don't already have the data at hand to figure this out?

Have you ever bought .223 rounds with a credit card? How about a sight or a trigger or a grip online? Or even googled AR parts?

There is already a database query written that could generate a list of 95% of the people who own ARs in a couple of seconds. The government just hasn't decided to do anything with it yet. I think people already forgot what Ed Snowden revealed about our government.

i couldn't agree anymore. laws only effect law abiding citizens. The war on drugs has failed, the FBI and state police have failed to keep crime to its minimum and that is why the freedom to protect oneself is most important.

You will be deeply disaapointed if you are waiting for Law enforcement agents/agencies to do the right thing. They will be loyal to the commanding officers, get their pay check and take care of their families. they won't sacrifice all that so you can keep your guns. just wanted you to know that right.

You apparently do not know many law enforcement officers or military personnel. Over half of the LEOs in the US are former military members. The majority of cops in America are pro 2nd Amendment as the members of our Armed Forces are. The paycheck and pension pays regardless of whether you are defiant or supporting your administration.

How long would door to door searches last until your local PD and SO had been killed off by attrition? Not long. Who takes the guns then? The military? The neat thing about America is that the Police and Military are just American Citizens dressed up like the Police or Military. We are still your neighbors and friends.

You either have not been around much for the past few decades or you choose to ignore reality. How many sheriffs or Police Chiefs have you seen defying laws passed as unconstitutional in the Western US? Tons. How about the District Attorneys refusing to prosecute? Tons. Outside of Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Oakland , Los Angeles, and San Diego, the conservative counties have stood their ground.

I swore an oath to the constitution of the US and the constitution of California 25 years ago, and it angers me when people paint almost one million cops under the same brush, apparently the fine details are not important to you.

They are important to me and the majority of us, because when then come for the guns, they are coming for us as well. Whoever they are....

I do not see any cops in NY just allowing people to walk around with open carry handguns...its normal for a cop that stopped someone with a light out to start off with asking where the person is going. WTF business is it of that cops where I am going? I will just sit here and enjoy my right to privacy, thanks....I think the majority of cops will do as asked to do. National Guard helped illegally confiscate guns in New Orleans...

Normally I would agree with you Zap however...

NY probably has similar laws as California for open carry, as in it does not exist anymore. That is due to liberal judges deciding the vocal minority outride the silent majority.

As for the vehicle light out. When you ask someone who is out and up to no good where they are going or coming from, they usually stammer or freeze up. Law abiding people just answer as they have nothing to hide. It is one method to help in an investigation to get drunks off the highway before they kill or permanently disable people, or crooks before they shoot someone. I am one of those people permanently disabled by a drunk driver. I would prefer they are off the roads. And if a few questions help determine that, so be it, but you can always refuse to answer and just hand over your ID. The Police will usually figure out if you are out to hurt others regardless. But notice you never get asked where you are going at noon, only late at night.

As for the majority of cops, apparently you have not spent much time with the cops, or that comment would never have been posted. The national guard is not the Police. and what was the Police/Military percentage of participation and guns taken in NO? How many refused to act? And how many guns were actually seized?

Once you get further away from the coast and heavily populated areas you should be able to see that. I have been to both and the difference is night and day.

An officer in town that went to school with my wife was trying to talk her out of getting her carrry permit because it could be dangerous. All kinds of WTF there. Another officer in town that’s a real prick told my wife to buy more guns because he can’t be there to save her if something happens. I gave her a confused look and she said yes, he said that.

So you would prefer no questions are ever asked of anyone on a traffic stop at 0200hrs? Move along drunk driver...go kill whomever you want? Last time I was sworn in it was to safeguard lives and property, not search it. So if I needed to ask a few questions years ago in patrol to hear if someone is slurring their words I should not have asked?

Zap, I work in one of the most crime ridden violent cities in California and have investigated 350 child molestation cases in the past 6 years, with a few adult female rapes thrown in for variety.

Please explain how I should have avoided asking questions or investigated the suspects "using any excuse" for those heinous crimes?

The Police do not use excuses. They use reasonable suspicion, based on a series of articulated facts, to lead to probable cause, (elements of a crime) which leads to an arrest. Physical evidence and statements are a bonus.

What they, the Police, are not doing is a door to door searching for guns in America.

I am sure if we sat down together we could see where each guy is coming from. Not sure where you are in Kansas but my family is from Almena and Long Island KS. Some are atill there. I agree with 99% of your comments on this forum, but to throw all cops under a goose stepping bus is unacceptable to me. Even out here on the left Coast. The majority of cops and the military love America, and we die for it on a daily basis.

I think it went from a Political problem to a LEO one when the integrity and patriotism of all the nations 800k Law Enforcement officers were questioned and deemed negotiable to paychecks and pensions.

Edit: the difference between poachers and hunters is hunters will call out poachers. Cops are perfectly at home defending the "actions of the few". Your post is case of point. The problem is that when the masses try to justify the "actions of a few" then they are all part of the problem. Try defending a poacher on this site and see how that goes.
