I'm curious to see the demographics on RS in regards to who shoots both eyes open, or one eye closed. What would really be interesting is to see how that looks for those who shoot on one side, but are cross-eyed dominant... Pick your answers, and it would be cool to hear your experiences maybe in regards to "I've always done this", "I was this way first but then changed because of "X" and now shoot differently and this is what I've seen change", etc.

Thanks!

Irons, turkeys w/ shotgun and archery one eye. Wing shooting, red dots, and magnified optics are mixed but both eyes if possible. Occasionally working on using both eyes past 100 yards and with 15x + but it can be a struggle, especially with much glare.

Left handed, right eye dominant, shoot a rifle, bow, shotgun, muzzleloader all with only 1 eye. I shoot right handed. I don’t see how anyone can shoot a bow or scoped rifle with both eyes open

Interesting, and I imagine the other eye is always trying to focus on the target you're looking at, at distance. I find my eyes are doing this dance between close and far lol

Probably as with all things, practice helps. There are some threads in the archery forum that have a lot of shooter advocating for both eyes being open IIRC

Rifles with scopes one eye closed

with shotgun generally i shoot with one eye closed as well, but I find myself shooting with both eyes open often, especially on quick shots, i have read its similar to how people who shot bows instinctively do, I dont "try" to shoot with both eyes open, it just happens lol
