This is an interesting read. For me I have always dreamed of hunting sheep and after giving up my residency in Nm and settling in Mo I thought my chances of ever drawing a tag in the lower 48 was slim. Plus I had always wanted to hunt Alaska and the Yukon. With the price of a Stone hunt I knew my only real option was a Dall. The more I began to research the more I became determined to make it happen. The timing was perfect since my family wanted to finish our basement so our high school son had a place to hang out with his buddies. We thought better to have them hanging out at our home than out someplace else. We got several estimates and it was close to $60k to get what we wanted. I am pretty skilled with construction projects having grown up with a dad who built custom homes for a living. I found a licensed contractor tractor who would get the permits and inspections while allowing me to do a lot of the work. We did the basement finish for about half of what it would have cost contracting it out saving a lot of money. When we finished after several months working late nights, I told my wife there was one thing missing, a Dall sheep mount. She asked me where do you get one of those and I said Alaska. 2 years later I was on the hunt and 3 years later the basement was complete with my Dall mount. I would never have done it without the support of my wife. People dream of crazy things and I just happened to dream of hunting sheep in the far north. If that is your dream then go and make it happen. My only advice is to be responsible and don’t put your family at risk.
