House Fire damage

My parents house burned last night.....

Everyone is safe. Lots of firearms lost.

My question is I know the barrels are shot. Are the actions cooked too ?

What about that scopes ? Cosmetically they look ok.

Depending on the manufacturer I thought some of them would replace the scopes under their lifetime warrantee schtick.

So they did not have a rider on their insurance to cover firearms. If the house is a total lose, I would think the guns are a total lose. More info needed on the fire to have any accurate answers to your questions. Good to know everyone is ok.

Home owners might cover the adjustor was not sure. No rider to specifically cover firearms.

Honestly I'm not sure how scopes survived. Three were on carbon barreled guns that the carbon is toast. Other barrels instantly rusted, flaking of metal, I know actions can be rehardened but it's my understanding that barrels once hot like that are done.

I know that Leupold would not cover them would offer discount.

Vortex said same thing.

As far as everything else. Half the gun powder melted containers but never lit. Other half took direct spray from nozzles.

Fire burned hot and quick, basement up through balloon frame structure, still standing however floor joists took major damage.

Bummer. Scopes have a lot of glue, coatings, and seals that I would not expect to survive those temps. No harm in trying them out again, but the glass has definitely been affected.

Answer lady gave was it wasn't in their warranty.

I would be calling Vortex back. Someone is misinformed.

To answer your questions about the actions, you will need to get the bolt and action rockwell tested to see if they annealed.
That's what I thought. Any idea or leads of places that are competent with the guns ? I mean if they are total loss and covered we will go other directions.

As far as vortex goes I will be calling them back.

Sorry to hear about their house. That sucks. At least everyone is ok. Usually the insured value is a lot higher than the actual re-build cost. My coverage is like that. I don't have firearm coverage but the total payout would easily cover the replacement cost of the house and all of my stuff. I guess it depends on the value of the guns.

I would ask any local machine shops, knife makers and spring shops.

I wish you lots of luck with the insurance company. My policy has a 3k limit on guns. You can make up some losses on optics that are not mounted in some cases.
