I recently converted my Knight Ultra-Lite from musket caps to a bare 209 primer system using the official Knight conversion kit. Everything seemed fine at first, but now I’m running into an issue: after firing, the 209 primer gets stuck in the pocket of the bolt—as seen in the attached photo. I have to use needle nose pliers to remove it each time.

Dry firing multiple times doesn’t help loosen it, and it’s becoming a consistent issue.

My question is:

Do I need to shim the breech plug’s primer pocket?

If so, where can I buy the correct shims for this setup?

Shim the current BP may help. I ended up buying an after market BP from LeHigh Defense. Worked better but still had an occasional one get stuck. I have since ditched using both 209 and Black Horn Powder. Went back to #11 caps and T7 powder. Oh and I ditched my Knight UL and bought a White .451. I’m much happier. 😀

It is more how well the Breech Plug Primer Pocket is machnined. This is a know issue with Knight Rifles as well as blow back, I tried a SSK Custom Breech Plug before Knight sent a Cease & Desist Order to SSK stopping them from Offering their Breech Plug. So that said shimming your breech plug is a "one and done" because you can't remove the shims as they become permanent. Other concern is having to replace the Vent Liner as they are to be only good for maybe 100 shots as the vent liner gets larger and lessens the ignition of the powder.
I opted to get a Breech Plug that uses a tungsten carbide bushing that is to be good for 1000 shots before the bushing needs to be replaced. The SSK BP was too tight and the primer did not even slide in using both the Fed 209A & the Win W209 Primers. But learn from a freind that his Lehigh the primer fell right in (loose)? ( which as a lot of blow back and requires a lot more thorough cleaning.) I sent my barrel / action of my Knight Extreme out to a Gunsmith that does a custom upgrade so there is to be zero blow back. But it is not low cost with S&H to him is $230.00. As not even firing a primer just closing the bolt required pliers to get the primers out. Now They pop right out.
Just what I learned.
Good luck
